11 deg min, clear sky.
Packed up and headed back to the main road. Turned west and headed to Wiluna. Onto the Goldfields Highway towards Meekatharra. Unfortunately this section of the highway still hasn’t been fully covered with bitumen but the gravel had been recently graded which was good. The next section wasn’t so good!
Stopped for a cuppa. Continued on, a dingo darted across the road. Still a lot about. The worst ones are the ‘wild dogs’, mix of normal dogs and dingoes.
Into Meekatharra to top up with diesel, water and have lunch at the park.
Onto the Great Northern Highway heading north. Just past the Karalundi Van Park turn off we turned east and followed Ray and Carol along the red sand track. Around two water points for the station’s cattle and then we turned south into an area that used to be pending but that has been dropped so it is open Crown land now so all good for us. Ray and Carol were here last year but could only stay a week as there was rain coming and this is not the ground to be travelling over when it is wet!
Around to where they parked last year with Tony & Sharnie (parents of Anthony from Darwin who we met at Kurundi Downs). They had done a lot of slow gridding picking up little bits so we aren’t too hopeful.
Set up camp and Steve and Ray collected firewood.
Read for the afternoon then enjoyed our chatting around the fire with the flies. Lovely big full moon rose above the trees and the stars twinkled. Lovely evening.
