Another
storm passed over us in the early morning but we only got a few drops of rain.
Nothing in the rain gauge.
7am
27 degrees, clouds and blue sky and a strong easterly wind.
Steve
collected some more rubbish and dropped it in our rubbish tip. Came back with
another bottle and some carmelised quartz for his collection.
He
also found an old water tank which he dragged back to go with the relics on the
back of the Chev.
Had
a cuppa then headed off. The cattle are enjoying the hay.
I
like this one with its long white socks.
Drove
out to St Patricks again to collect the pod as we can’t keep our tank full from
the well. Changing the angle of the pump didn’t make any difference. We seem to
be having more and more cattle in and they drink a lot of water.
Back
home for lunch, 37 degrees. The wind is getting stronger and bringing puffy
white clouds across us. The cattle have eaten half the hay so far.
Rob
and Richie arrived with the air conditioner for the cottage and the cable Steve
needs to lower the pump at Glens Bore. The electrician is coming tomorrow. They
also checked out the cattle and Rob decided he would put up yards and try and
trap some. As it has heated up they will come back later to erect it as the
metal is too hot to touch at the moment.
Took
the pod back. The windmill is pumping furiously as the wind picks up in force
so it won’t take long to refill the pod.
Drove
down the fence line from Christmas Well hoping to find another track into 10
Mile Pool but we couldn’t find one and there was no gate near it either.
2pm
39 degrees and the wind is getting stronger. BOM says 39 kph from the east which
I agree with as it is making everything flap.
Worked
on my jigsaw while Steve got things ready to lower the pump. Had a cuppa
watching more cattle come in for the hay.
Drove
down to Glens Bore as the puffy clouds turned into dark ones. Steve had to
solder more cable onto the pump power one and then we added more hose and
lowered it down. It only went another 3 metres. Turned on the pump just when a
big dark cloud covered the sun and it didn’t come out again so we left it on
and will check it tomorrow when we do our bore run.
A
crested pigeon was walking around the rim of the trough trying to reach down
for a drink of water but the cattle must have just been through as it was lower
than usual and the pigeon couldn’t get to the water. I splashed some out into a
pool so hopefully he will come down and get a drink once we leave.
The
cattle have nearly eaten all the hay.
Rob
and Richie came back and with Steve they started erecting the yard around the
water trough. I wandered down to check it out.
Those
clouds look interesting but it isn’t showing us getting any rain on the radar.
A few flashes of lightning occurred as the clouds headed south of us.
More
clouds coming from the north-west which might give us something.
5pm
37 degrees and the wind is howling but it is coming straight onto the front of
the van so it isn’t rocking the van much. I rang Mum and Dad for a chat. The
rain has stopped but she said it was sad for inland Queensland who were
suffering from the drought and now are drowning with the rain. They are losing
so much stock. Nature can be cruel at times.
The
boys finished the yards and headed back to the homestead. The cattle are
wandering around the fences trying to work out how to get to the water trough.
They have an opening they can enter then exit from at the moment till they get
comfortable coming in and out then they change it so they can enter but can’t
exit when they want to trap them.
7.30
- the storm is coming with lots of lightning and thunder. A few spits of rain
as we sat on the verandah eating our dinner. Then the wind was blowing more
rain in on us so we retreated to the van and closed up the windows etc. Steve
put the pipe into the pool to put some more rain water in it. Only light rain
but it is falling constantly. Might get something in my rain gauge by the
morning.
Still
raining as we went to bed and the wind has settled so it is perfect for
sleeping.
