Tues, 22nd Aug, 2023 Jon & Annalise’s place, Cairns, Qld (sightseeing south)

Bit cloudy again. Malcolm and Kerry picked us up for a sightseeing drive south. Using their hire car as it is a hybrid - the cost of diesel is still over $2 which is crazy.

Misty rain as we drove through Fishery Falls - I thought we weren’t getting any more rain till the end of the week!

First stop was Babinda Bakery for some coffees then out to Babinda Boulders to drink them and have a wander.

A couple of selfie shots.

Wandered down to the next platform. Beautiful.

Continued on to Innisfail then down to Etty Bay. The pub/cafe has closed so we couldn’t get lunch there. After a quick look we continued on - didn’t even see a cassowary either!

Nice view over the fields to the Great Dividing Range as we went back down the hillside.

Back out then through South Johnstone to Paronella Park. Looked crowded so we went across the bridge to the Mena Creek Hotel for lunch. Very nice stead sandwiches. The boys has alcoholic ginger beer that was called Red Dragon - a small brewery in Portsmith. Very nice.

Went down the path to the lookout platform for the falls - need to prune that tree. Steve had kept some bread crust for the fish but none came, only a small turtle.

Looking across to Paronella Park buildings and the hydro room in the rock wall. I did the tour with Erica & Terry a few years back. Fabulous.

Back up the top to read the info board (which I have photographed before) then walk across the very wobbly suspension bridge.

Found out why no fish came to Steve’s bread - they were all being fed on the other side.

We spotted a couple with a drone and as it rose we waved. Then a lady came over to us saying they were doing footage for the owners (who were on the bridge) so asked us not to look at the camera - oops.

Back across after they had finished filming. Love Mal’s shirt - might have to get one for Steve when he becomes a grandad.

Headed back home via Innisfail. Still some misty clouds on the hills near Fishery Falls but no more on us on the way home.

Back to Mooroobool so we got Mal to turn up Cicero Close to check out our old house. New paint job and closed in front garden. Then we drove up the top roads of City View Estate - great view from up here but I would hate the steep drive up and down all the time.

Wendy had been having a clean out and sent me photos of Jon from Bang magazine that Sarah had work on - I have them.

Great day out and it was somewhere Mal and Kerry haven’t explored on their visits to Cairns over the years.
