Min 12.7 degrees this morning. By 7.30 it had risen to 18 and is overcast but not windy, yet!
Lazy morning then headed off after morning tea in shorts and t-shirts for a change.
Back to the main road via another gravel road. On to Boyup Brook. Over the Blackwood River again. Down to Railway Parade instead of going through town. Found another fabulous mural by Sobrane on the rail shed.
Steve walked along the street to check out the Classic Car shop but it was closed and behind a big fence. Ring to make an appointment so we kept going. There was an old fire engine in the carport.
Headed out of town past the Country Music place with the big sculptures out of tree trunks etc that we explored on our previous visit. Driving alongside the Blackwood River on another road to mark off in my map book.
Turned off onto a gravel road, that continues along the edge of the river, to a tree stump. It was blazed by AC Gregory in 1845 (179 years ago). Amazing it has survived and great to see that it is being protected now.
Back to the main road and across the Blackwood River on the Asplin Bridge.
Rolling up and down hills as we travel past cattle and hay growing fields.
Reached the Blackwood River again and crossed over it on the Trigwell Bridge.
We stopped in the gravel area at the top which is supposed to be a picnic area but they need to do some lawn mowing here.
Wandered down for a look at where the old bridge went across.
Back to the camper for lunch. Inside - not using the picnic table!! The sky is a white/grey solid colour with a gusty wind.
Continued on and took another turn off down to the river again near Eulin Crossing. Found a cleared area by the river. Another camper was parked up - Minibago.
We pulled in and set up by the water - lovely spot. Warm enough to get out the chairs and have our cuppa by the water too. A few ducks and cormorants paddling about.
The lady came over to check out our camp in comparison to hers. She was very impressed.
Worked on my blog for a bit then we went for a walk to check out Eulin Crossing. Found some grain on the side of the road.
Obviously we are on a big lagoon section then it narrows down here with more trees in the waterway.
Continued along to try and find the other picnic spot marked on Wikicamps. Lots of big grass trees about. Walked up another bauxite covered road but didn’t find it so headed back to camp. The white/grey cloud is starting to break up and some blue sky is appearing.
Drinks outside watching a brilliant blue wren (Splendid fairywren) flit about. I wasn’t game to get up for my camera so just enjoyed the show. He sat for a long time on a stump when they normally flit about so quickly.
After he left I got the camera hoping he would return. I just got him through the trees but he didn’t come back and sit for me again. The others flittered about too and this one sat for a while on the branch so I could get a good photo.
Lots of different bird sounds to listen too and only a few flies!
Inside for dinner with the windows open - so nice but won’t last. Forecast for 4 days of light rain to come!
Cooling down by bedtime so closed up the camper as it will be cool in the morning.
