Great
view from my bedroom window (look fuzzy through the mesh though). Was going to leave the blind up for the night as
we have no neighbours but they left the big screen on and it shone straight
into the van. The peacock wakes everyone up with his call – sounds like a meow.
Brighter
morning though it is quite cool 15.7 degrees in the van and 14 degrees outside
with a light wind.
Aussie
Race Cars first race started at 9.40 so we made a cuppa and watched them from
outside the van. Took some videos. One crashed in front of our camp at the end
of Turn 1.
We
put on warm clothes and coats and headed off to check out the bus that keeps
going by so we don’t have to do the big walk again!! A helicopter lands while
the GTs were qualifying and they had to stop the race as it was in a restricted
area – or so they said on the broadcast.
Found
the free bus stop so went back for our chairs and caught the bus to the mound
behind “Siberia”. It is called that because when the drivers come around the
corner there is nothing but ocean to see and if you get it wrong there is a big
area of white stones to slow them down.
Crazy photographers trying to get a 'top' shot.
Good
view back to our van. Over the Southern Loop the sky looks good but over Lukey
Heights the sky is bleak.
Watched
qualifying. Scott McLaughlin in No. 33 took pole for Race 33 but No. 34 didn’t
get pole for race 34 – Jamie Whincup did. Headed back for some lunch at the van. Put the TV
on and watched V8xtra. The aerial entertainment was on so took some photos and
videos from the van – amazing skills twirling his plane around the air.
Scott
McLaughlin won the 1st race.
Great
view over Phillip Island and Bass Strait – a lot calmer – hope it is like that
when we go.
Cute esky and seat.
Doesn’t
feel like a big crowd but it is a big track where everyone can drive in with
their cars and park right beside the track.
Hot Wheels utes entertain us. One of the guys is a stunt driver for someone in a movie - can't think who they said!!
Race
34 start – great shot as they look like they are going to disappear over the
cliff.
Winterbottom
takes the lead.
The
cars file round “Siberia” corner right in front of us.
Jamie
won Race 34. That gave Jamie enough points lead so he has won the Championship
even with another race tomorrow and another weekend in Sydney in December.
Waving to the crowd.
The crowd cheers.
Very happy with engineer.
Channel 7 interview.
They had their banners ready in case he got enough points in front to win the Championship.
The
bus was full so we walked back. Two of those water fowl on the track – lucky they
behaved themselves.
Wandered
around the camp areas checking out the variety of camps. These guys are from
Melbourne and come complete with pool table. They were in Bathurst too.
Nice
night though a few drops of rain started to fall. They are predicting rain
later tonight and tomorrow – hope they have it wrong.
