Wed, 5th Nov, 2014 Melbourne (sightseeing)

Slow start this morning 8am. Rang Steve – he has only found one other bit of gold and it was windy and raining there yesterday. He will move to Creswick Regional Park near Ballarat so I can catch the train to Ballarat instead. He had a good time at Paddy’s Ranges near Maryborough even though he only found 2 more little bits of gold. Met some characters. One chap gave him spots to check out where he had found gold but he must have got it all!! Paddy’s Ranges was like Notley’s and had lots of tracks going everywhere. Caught a tram to St Kilda. Past some iconic buildings, will have to go back to Luna Park.

Wandered along Acland Street, so many bakeries to choose our morning tea from. So we all shared to have a taste of each!!

Lots of dress and shoe shops too and a few with different items for sale, like this lampshade for a bloke.

Interesting art in this area.

Wendy loved this rubbish bin.

More crazy art on the building.

The girls find another shop.

And cheap fascinators now the Cup is over.

I loved this bag and there was a coat I could have bought. Should have come here at the beginning of the trip.

Walked back down the street to Luna Park, unfortunately it was closed. Wendy wanted to ride the Carousel.

They have “Public Conveniences” here, sounds better than Toilets.

Down to St Kilda Beach – though the wind is howling and freezing.

Looking back to where the cruise ships are past the St Kilda Yacht Club

 Then the Port of Melbourne.

Maybe Steve should have been detecting here.

Good wind for parachuting.

And kite surfing.

Sandra used to come here with her mum – many happy memories.

Have to find what OD signs stand for – saw them in Bendigo OD15 and OD16.

Walked down Fitzroy Street but none of the restaurants etc were open.

Back on the tram and went back to Southbank for something to eat. Good maps on board.

Went upstairs above the food court and found a heap more shops with fancy lights!!!

Down to the Arts Centre with its waterfall entrance.

Gold carousel in the middle.

Into the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition – it was fantastic.

The velvet dress and head piece in the middle took 126 hours to create.

The models looked alive but they were just dummies with a video feed onto their faces of men and women talking and singing. Amazing, so life like.

This guy was so cheeky – it was like they could hear us.

Jean Paul talked in French and English so I did a lot of videoing as well as the hundreds of pictures. Got a USB to put all our trip on for the girls to take home.

They had videos of the Paris Couture catwalks.

There were 8 rooms each with a different theme. He did a lot with Madonna on her Blonde Ambition World Tour – created a few outfits for her. Also Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman.

One room was lingerie then there was the catwalk area where you sat like you are in Paris and the models come by and the Punk section was out there but interesting.

This was a complete stocking outfit.

Then there was the red light section. One interesting pussycat one that Wendy liked!! - had an interesting tail!!

Some of his sketches.

There were nice warm outfits.

Lots of feathers

Indian wedding dress

A crocodile or two.

Poor leopard

Mum could crotchet me this one!!

The white one is just plain weird, there were a lot of weird ones but interesting.

Interesting wedding outfit.

Nicole Kidman wore this one in 2004.

This one was the main one used for the promos, hence I thought it was going to be a bit far out – it is but also amazing. Kylie Minogue wore this in the X Tour 2008 video backdrop.

Some are quite nice – Cate Blanchett wore this at the 2005 Annual Golden Globe Awards.

Some outfits have been used in movies – they had the scenes playing on the TV.

The bodice is made of film and the skirt is printed like film.

Me rubbing shoulders with Jean Paul.

Then you could go into the merchandise and spend a fortune – A t-shirt was $195!!!

Back down to Southbank and watched a coach instruct his rowing crew.

Change of clothes and across the road to the Langham for our last dinner and drinks together. Cathy and Bev had gone to the Theatre to see Le Mes. Will miss my good friend Wendy, has been great fun.

Yummy cocktail – Hazelnut Wink and delicious dinner in very classy surroundings.

Interesting flowers.

Back to our room for a cuppa and finish packing and downloading the photos etc.

Will miss the girls – it has been a great week.
