Slept
well with the relaxing sound of the waves. The other two vans have left so
Leanne & Rick moved across to the front. The wind has come up though but it
is a lovely summer day of 30 degrees.
The
wind is whipping up the waves. Look awesome. A few more guys have driven in to
check out the surf.
Rick
went down to have a fish and managed to get one. It is a type of parrot that
they use for crayfish pot bait.
While
he climbed back up to get some pliers (it swallowed the hook), I zoomed in and
it flipped over for a better photo.
Unfortunately
while he was bringing it in the tip of his rod broke.
Lots
of kelp floating about, the waves were spectacular looking further down the
coast of Ocean Beach.
Someone
was out diving for crays or abalone.
A
gust blew Rick’s hat off into the sea. I was amazed it floated for so long.
We
were sitting up beside Leanne’s van looking over the sea. The march flies are
just as bad here but we found they like the white bowl with some dishwashing
water in it.
Steve
went up to get his rod and a lure as the waves were slowly bringing it closer
to shore.
A
surfer having a go.
Unfortunately
a wave flipped over the hat and then the waves took it back out to see and then
we lost sight of it. Rick was devastated!! Steve found a spare bucket hat of
his to keep Rick’s shiny head protected from the harsh Tassie sun.
Steve
went for a drive back up the hill to try and find one of the mines, and gold!!!
We headed down to the museum. Rick made a deposit to the RFDS as we went in.
They
have picked up lots of broken plates, bottles etc from the old mine sites etc.
A
great old wine decanter.
The
wind is a lot stronger here, hope the vans are ok. Plenty of room around our
vans now.
Lots
of rocks etc to check out. Would love a piece of this rock.
Info
about Trial Harbour from one of the old newspapers.
And
the Zig Zag track.
Great
collection of bottles etc.
On
top of the mountain near our camp is a pile of rocks called Pulpit Rock.
An
almost full mandibles from a stranded Sperm Whale.
Crocoite
– Tasmanian’s mineral emblem.
A
good specimen of a tea tree.
A
whale bone totem pole.
Zoomed
in on the Pulpit Rock – don’t think we will do the walk up!!
Interesting
old chainsaw – maybe run by hydraulics.
Steve
arrived back – no mine or gold. The bridge was out and the road was very rough.
We went for a walk along the beach but the wind from the land was whipping up
the sand we were getting sandblasted.
Some
more old whale bones near the boat ramp.
Steve
found me a lovely abalone shell.
I
had found this shell and poor little crabby on the beach.
As
it was such a warm day Steve decided to be brave and have a dip in the creek. I
stood up the top for a photo of the moment – that’s as long as he would be in
the water!!! It was freezing.
Well
he lasted longer than I thought he would. He said it was twice as cold as
Millaa Millaa Falls!!
The
top part of creek.
The
path continues along through the low scrub. Leanne and I did a bit of it but it
got too scratchy on our legs as we had shorts on for a change.
I
wanted to cook in the bush cooker so Steve got a fire going in the big pit
provided. Unfortunately the wind decided it wanted to blow harder but we got it
cooked.
The
clouds are low again. So happy I got
those great sunset photos yesterday. A ray shooting through.
Had fun trying to get shots of the waves being whipped up.
Then
it started to rain in the distance.
Had
a visit last night from a pademelon so put out my vegie scraps and Steve’s
mouldy bread for him to follow.
Smart
chap followed the trail.
