Headed
off up the Gillies Range to Yungaburra. Passed the Bottom Gate sign but no room
to stop and take a photo. The Gillies used to be a one way range and was
controlled by a patrolman at the top and the bottom allowing the cars etc to
traverse this very windy range.
Lots
of smoke around as the hillside up the range has burnt and still smouldering in
some places so I didn’t stop for a photo from the lookout.
So
lovely to reach the top and look out over the rolling hills of the Tablelands.
Into Yungaburra and around to Maralyn and Greg’s house in Lakeview Estate. View
from their driveway over one of the arms of the lake – very low at the moment.
Lots
of beautiful Jacaranda trees everywhere in bloom.
Had
a wonderful time chatting with Maralyn and Greg and their neighbours, John
Pollock who worked at BSES with Dad and Ludji Peden who is an artist friend of
Mum’s. Rang Terry while I was there with Maralyn to wish him a happy birthday
for tomorrow.
For
lunch we went into Yungaburra with John to meet his wife Pat at the Whistlestop
Café. Very nice.
Drove
down to Tinaburra ski area to check out the water height.
Headed
back to Yungaburra looking towards Maralyn’s place.
Back
to the top of the Gillies Range – room to stop here so got a photo of the gate.
Dad said the actual gatehouse was on the other side of the road.
Back
down to Gordonvale where I got a great photo of the Pyramid. I never got to
climb that but it isn’t on my Bucket List as I have climbed Mt Bartle Frere
which is the highest mountain in Queensland so that will do me for mountain
climbing!!
Into
Gordonvale for a look around and photo of the sugar mill. They are harvesting
the cane now but I keep missing taking a photo of the harvester at work. Still a sleepy little town which comes alive
when they have the Pyramid Race earlier in the year. Crazy people run from
Gordonvale up the Pyramid and down again!!
Lovely
day out touring. Stopped in at Greg and Tracy’s to check out the bathroom
renovation. Home again for an easy dinner. Greg was going fishing so I went out
and chatted with Tracy for the evening.
