6.30am
9 degrees so the heater went on. Clear sky and light breeze.
Detected
on different areas but no joy. Chatted to two chaps from Victoria who were just
moving camp as they had a friend coming in with a caravan which wouldn’t fit
where they were with their camper trailers. They haven’t had any luck with the
gold either.
We
followed a track back to Mertondale No. 4 Mine which is a huge open pit but is
now abandoned. Obviously KIN Mining are planning to rework the area. We
continued on to the original Mertondale Mine where the remains of a big smoke
stack, some concrete foundations and a bit of equipment can be seen. I didn’t
have my camera with me.
Back
to the van for lunch, 23 degrees.
Jon
rang and we chatted for a while which was amazing as yesterday the signal went
in and out regularly. I had received a parcel from Aveda and it was cosmetics.
I remember seeing an email from Australia Post about a parcel was ready from
them and as Ray and Carol had a funny message about a parcel too I had ignored
it and not opened the email in case it was a scam. Jess will enjoy the
cosmetics. I will recheck the email when we get reception again as I didn’t
order or paid for anything so hopefully it was just some promotion thing.
Tried
another area to detect and found where the Victorian chaps had moved too. I had
mentioned Brian and Kerry were coming in and he said he had just seen them so
we headed back to camp. Over a cuppa caught up with what Kerry and Brian had
seen since we parted.
Ray
and Carol came back and we retired to the camp fire with our drinks. One of the
chaps, Ian, from the other vans came over to join us and eventually his mate,
Kev, joined us too. Ian said there had been a gold detecting tour group (15
vehicles) through here, hence all the holes and well used tracks. Looks like we
have missed out but maybe they left something behind for us.
Not
as cold tonight so no need for the heater which is good. It doesn’t use much
diesel but it is nice to not need it.
NO
PHOTOS TODAY.
