Wed, 1st May, 2019 Bush camp at Wild Cat Mine, north-east of Leonora, WA

6.30am 9 degrees, clear sky. Put the heater on.

7.30am up to 14 degrees so we got up for breakfast! The wind is blowing clouds over us again from the south east.

Tried another spot for detecting – not even any rubbish.

Home for a nice warm lunch of soup, griddle scones and a toasted wrap. The cold weather is bad for our waistlines.

After lunch we tried one last time at Ray and Carol’s area. Ray had put on a chain and gridded it to make sure he hadn’t missed any since we got those two yesterday. All gone now. I did manage to ping a tiny bit on the slope when I stopped to listen to a sound – it sounded like a vehicle but it was the wind working its way through the tree tops. When I put the detector down I got the signal and out came a little bit of gold. I gridded around the area and only found a lead shot and thin bits of wire so I was lucky to find that bit.

Back to the van for smoko and a few games of Skipbo.

The sky cleared as Steve got the fire going for drinks. Ray and Carol were cooking inside tonight so we sat by the fire while our dinner cooked in the camp oven with our ‘lovelies warmers’ heating up our backs. Steve spotted one satellite slowing going across the sky.

Cold evening, 15 degrees in the van when we went in for dinner so we put the heater on. Watched one episode then heated up the shower cubicle before we went in for our showers. Very nice. So glad I put the flannelette sheets on the bed!
