Sat, 6th Jan, 2024 Kerry & Brian’s place, Port Macquarie to Pete & Marion’s place, Forster, NSW (Linda & David at Wallabi Point)

Blue sky and sun in the east but dark grey sky to the west. We are going south along the coast so should be ok.

Packed up then chatted for a bit more - hope we can catch up with them in NT or WA sometime soon. Back out to the motorway and south to Taree then to the coast to visit Linda & David at Wallabi Point. Linda was in the bush taking a photo of a bird when we arrived so she sent me her snap of us.

They only bought this last year and it is a real gem. Two-storey duplex with a short walk to the beach. Just like Woodgate, no one on the beach even over Christmas - they all go around to Old Bar or actual Wallabi Beach which is around the point.

Fantastic view from the balcony (shame about the power lines though). They saw whales from here so next purchase is a telescope with camera attachment. Tall Norfolk Pine on the Point - looks like it has a cross on the top of it.

After a cuppa we wandered down to the beach which is actually the end of Old Bar Beach. There is a lagoon that sometimes meets the sea on very high tides. Looking back to Old Bar township on the point. They have a fabulous VW festival in October.

Wallabi Point.

The greenies have taken over that you can’t clear the vegetation so this chair will slowly disappear into the bush.

Up onto the point. Rocky platforms.

Walked along to view over Wallabi Beach then Saltwater Beach. Forster in the distance. Lots of other beach towns along the coast too.

David picked us up in the car and we drove around to Saltwater Beach around the point at the other end of Wallabi Beach. It has Khappinghat Creek coming into it so a fabulous place for kids etc.

Through a camping area for ‘first inhabitants’ which is full of tents. They are allowed a two week period and have to book in extra. Seems to be working well. Others can travel through here too as there is a boat ramp that Linda and David use to paddle on the boards along the creek.

Back to Old Bar which has shops, van park etc so more popular. Continued along to one of the mouths of the Hastings River. Very popular spot too.

Back to the Tavern for lunch which was delicious. Linda & David were planning to go to Wingham this afternoon as there is a rodeo on there and they are enjoying going to the different events around the district which they are up here from Sydney. We decided to continue on so said goodbye and headed back to the motorway.

Sent a text to Marion and they were just heading to the waterpark with Henry at Tuncurry so we will stop there first. Driving alongside the Wallamba River - lots of ski boats zooming along.

Found a park near the bridge that will take us to Forster over Wallis Lake. The lake has a large trained entrance the is permanently opened to the sea.

Pete found us and we watched Henry and lots of other kids at the water park for a while. The breeze was cool coming off the water park that I wanted to stand in the sun and eventually Henry (4yr) gave up as his teeth were chattering.

We programmed ‘girlie’ with their address, over the bridge and through all the homes. This was mum’s brother Wally & Val’s holiday home which they used a lot and Pete and his children continue to enjoy the beach/lake lifestyle. Unfortunately it is on a steep hill and the driveway is not flat so we moved into the house for the night as they have plenty of room.

Found one of Mum’s paintings and Pete found a couple more that hadn’t been framed.

Nice view from the front porch over One Mile Beach area and the hills beyond.

We chatted for a while then went down to the park at One Mile Beach for BBQ dinner. I got dizzy on the ride with Henry.

Still daylight at 8pm when we came home. Chatted the evening away with lots of reminiscing. Pete and I share a special bond as we both have green eyes with a quarter of brown in one eye.
