Thurs, 12th June, 2025 Bush camp on pending lease, east of Nullagine to Dave & Sue’s camp, Mosquito Creek area, east of Nullagine, WA

9.6 degrees min, clear sky and windy. Nephew Tim’s birthday today, hope he has a good day.

We went wandering but only found a few bits of rubbish. Drove on into the lease and tried another spot where Steve managed to find a little bit.

After lunch we chatted with Margaret and Bob to let them know we will be going back to Leonora early July in case they were heading north. It is cold and raining at their place and they were starting to pack up the van but hadn’t decided where they were going yet.

We headed back out to the main road and went back to chat with the Karratha couple on the pending lease. They were still there but the track we had come in on didn’t take us to their camp. We called up on the UHF and they were at their camp so told us how to get to them. Got there eventually and met Cliff & Dee and John. Had a lovely chat about detecting around Karratha. John had found a 42g nugget before coming out here - we said why come! Change of scenery. We told them about Mosquito Creek detecting as they hadn’t been in there. They are heading home on Saturday so will save that for another visit. We headed back out then back into Mosquito Creek area again. Steve wanted to check out some pending leases further around which Ray wouldn’t have been able to get to van to so we will do that now.

As we made our way along we stopped as there was a car blocking the track. It was Dave & Sue. They were chatting with a couple, Jamie & Shelley, from Shark Bay so invited us all back to their camp for drinks. We will stay here tonight.

We had a lovely time chatting and exchanging stories as the sun set. They have a wonderful view over the valley from their camp. Jamie showed is a video taking by some fisherman out from Shark Bay, of lights darting around in the sky over the Pilbara. Dave said he has seen them from here - very busy around Easter time. Steve said he saw one the other night - it moved sidewards very quickly but we thought he just moved his head making a star look like it moved. Very interesting - secret military stuff maybe.

Dave said that Robert & Robyn have picked up two leases further along with their friends so will call in and see them tomorrow. Jamie and Shelley headed back to their tent as they will head back out tomorrow. We headed into the camper to cook dinner.
