Sun, 13th Dec, 2015 Murray River Reserve, Vinifera State Forest to Murray River Reserve, Nyah State Forest, Vic

18 degrees this morning – didn’t get the 8 degrees they forecasted. Still morning so we enjoyed breakfast overlooking the river. Not the prettiest of settings but still very peaceful.

Trundled along the River Track – found another red blaze but the tree has been cut down. (RWC 79 P4)

Into Nyah which is very RV friendly. You can camp by the river beside the Trotting Track.

We used the dump point then drove down to the river for a cuppa. Lots of galahs are here. Found three more painted bollards by the river’s edge. This one is of an Aboriginal female shearer with her shears.

Next is a woodcutter who supplied the fuel to keep the steam pouring out the funnels of the paddle steamers.

Last one is Pearl Wallace, who was the first female captain on the river and her bollard stands above the spot where her boat, the Kookaburra, finally came to rest. Now it is the boat ramp.

Continued along River Road – someone blamed the tree for damaging his car!!

A little island.

The road goes right along the edge here.

So many ring-barked trees just left to die. Maybe they stopped them logging here before they got out all the ones they had killed.

At Pics Point spotted a distance marker – 1348. Left the river as the track became too narrow. Travelled aong the edge of Parnee Malloo Creek for a bit. The water is so dark.

Turned back towards the river and found another distance marker – 1346 on the NSW bank.

Another big ring-barked tree.

Continued on and found a lovely spot on a bend.

Bit of a steep walk down to the river though.

The river just continues on its way.

Got out the washing machine and I wash the clothes while Steve used the water to wash the van and truck -  bit pointless as we have more dusty roads to travel over but at least it looks nice for a while. He also noticed one of the van tyres was a little down on pressure. Found a screw so out with the repair kit and put a plug in it.

The washing dried very quickly in this dry heat. Up to about 30 today but still lovely at 7.30pm so sat outside to eat dinner by the river. Not many flies here which is nice – just little ants that bite!!

Rang Jakob to wish him a happy birthday tomorrow (in case he was working or going out). Great to hear things are starting to fall into place for him with work etc.

Rang Mum and Dad for a catch up. Val still going better than ever – she is amazing.

Rebecca had rung while I was chatting to rang her and Clive back. Great to hear all their plans. Megan will be coming back to Sydney next year just as Ingrid heads to New Zealand.

Warm night so left the windows open.
