Sun, 10th Apr, 2016 Cohen Rest Area, near Penong to Scott Beach, Fowlers Bay Conservation Park, SA (Fowlers Bay)

Lovely sunrise this morning but too cool (14 degrees) to get up for a photo. Put the heater on for breakfast. The clear sky disappeared and a fog came over us.

Once it had cleared we headed off down the highway.

Friendly truckies all giving us a wave. Programmed ‘Kate’ for Fowlers Bay and she said to go down a dirt road that didn’t have a sign. I agreed as it was on my map. Came out onto a main road then I read the info book and it said they put in a new road!! Oh well, it wasn’t as bad as the other road.

Into Fowlers Bay which is another favourite for the fisherman. It was once a whaling station. There are only 16 permanent residents and a caravan park (that does very well). Parked near the jetty and wandered along the road reading all the history plaques. Great photo of the houses and jetty.

Big white sand dunes at the back door.

Continued along the plaques to a cairn for Matthew Flinders.

Lots of sea grass on the beach.

Walked out onto the jetty. Great view across to Point Fowler then along the sand dunes.

An old wagon near the next lot of history plaques.

Had a cuppa then headed out onto the jetty to fish. A chap had just caught a squid. Fished for an hour or so and only caught leather-jackets (they have a very nasty spine they stick up on their heads) and other little fish. No whiting or squid. As we walked out a chap was dragging his squid jig along the jetty and a squid jumped on his line!!

Had some lunch then headed around to Scott Beach. The lady in the van park said not to take the first road through the salt pans as it is very boggy and the other road was very corrugated. She was right!! Stopped in the camp area where there was a camp trailer then went for a walk along the sandy track onto the beach. Looks nice – not as much sea grass here.

More tracks over the dunes.

Looking across to the other side of Point Fowler.

The other side of the sand dunes of Fowlers Bay.

Big rock in the ocean.

Climbed up the hill for another spectacular view.

A hole in the cliff.

Continued around the cliff top. Fabulous view.

The water is so clear.

Walked right out onto the point where someone has started a rock cairn. Steve added a couple more.

Looking across to the next bay where there are two boats. Scanned around.

The Southern Ocean.

Zoomed in across the sand dunes to Fowlers Bay.

The waves crash over the rock shelves.

Walked back along the cliff edge, looking back the way we had come. Zoomed in on our van.

Interesting rock formations.

Back to the van. Steve was going to go over the sandy area onto the cliff top then another van pulled in so we decided to stop here and set up near them beside the dune. Peter and Chris are from Mildura.

Had a cuppa. Cute little lizard.

Drove down to the beach with our fishing gear to try our luck. Another chap was there and he had one whiting. Unfortunately it was the last one. I caught two little fish we kept for bait.

Tony and Yvonne pulled in too. Happy hour in the sunshine till the sun dropped and so did the temperature.

Warmed up the van cooking chips in the oven to go with our whiting for dinner. Rang Mum and Dad for a chat.
