Fri, 23rd Sept, 2016 Bush camp near Goodin Mine, WA (Brian’s birthday)

7.30am 17.5 degrees with the van all closed up. It was a warmer night though as the clouds had come over and it is overcast now. Even a little mist of rain on the window. Still windy though so the clouds are moving over quickly.

Tried ringing Brian to wish him a happy birthday but had to leave a message instead.

Heard on the news about BMX Champion Sam Willoughby – he had crashed in America and hasn’t had any movement below his chest. So very sad for him and his family. He is getting married next year too. I texted Jon and he replied that he was at a local BMX track. They had removed 2 vertebrate and put in cages and screws and that he has had a little sensation in his feet so hopefully that is good news. It reminded me of when Jon crashed at the Aust Titles in Shepparton and how lucky he was as with one moment your life can change forever. Jon also said that a school friend, Jimmy, had died a couple of weeks ago whilst working on a demolition site in Perth – he was crushed. That brought tears to my eyes too – so sad for him and his family. You need to cherish every moment as you never know when your number is up.

Steve put the generator on so I could work on my laptop – got so far behind on my blog again!! Life is too busy!!

Steve headed off with the 2300 again to make his fortune.

Rochelle texted that she had just read my blog about Wittenoom so I rang her back and we had a nice chat. She said to listen closely to Midnight Oil’s “Blue Sky Mine” which is about the mine. Another sad story of a Japanese lady taking a Jetski tour and crashing into one of the tour boats and dying. A horrible thing for her, her husband and all the people on the tour boat.

The sun was out by lunchtime (25 degrees) and the wind has blown all the clouds away, though it is still blowing. Rang Andrea for a chat then got onto Wendy Allard. Looking forward to catching up with everyone in November. Steve brought back two gifts for me – a lovely quartz crystal and a half a sphere rock.

Steve still going with the 2300 so I drove up the hill to upload my blog etc. At last I am up to date again. Checked the weather forecast and it will be cold nights next week in Meekatharra 5 and 6s and only 21 to 24 during the day. We are about 100 km north.

Checked the rock waterhole where the goanna was living but it is dry now and no sign of the goanna though there are lots of marks on the ground. Steve’s hole he dug out though had water in it and looks like some animals have been getting water from it.

Steve ended up with 13 nuglets for 1.9 grams.

Windier night and colder so no sitting around the fire tonight.
