Sun, 4th Sept, 2016 Bush camp, near Granite Hills Well, 45km E of Nullagine, WA

7.30am 21 degrees, clear blue sky and light breeze. Jon sent a text for Father’s Day so we rang him back for a chat. Steve gave Terry a call too.

Unfortunately no rest for Father’s Day as the tyre needs fixing and I’m not doing it!! While he sorted that I caught up on my blog and updated Facebook.

We hooked up the van and headed off onto a pending lease – been applied for but not granted yet so we can detect on it. We parked the van in an open area as the track deteriorated so we headed up the track in the truck to check out the other pending lease further along. The next lease has an old dry blower and lots of rubbish left behind.

It is over the old area called ‘Upper Mosquito Creek Mining Centre’ according to the Hema Map. We drove up Mosquito Creek for a bit to get there!! A nice big shed here and of course more rubbish.

Drove further around and found some old shafts. You could walk into this one but of course I didn’t.

They are easy to spot with the shiny shale on top.

We detected around here for a while. Steve scored with 4 nice nuglets. One was having a sunbake so he didn’t even have to dig for it.

Drove over the hill and found another mining camp area – well the remains of sheds and caravans.

No more gold so we headed back to the van. Decided to take the van back to the hand pump spot as we don’t have phone service here and we did back there. Also there were shady gum trees to park the van under as it is starting to get a hotter during the day.

Steve made the money for both of us today, 2.7 grams.

Set up again and got the fire going for dinner and to heat our shower water. Steve rang Jeff to see how he was going. He got an ounce from Ruby’s Well so we might call in there too.

9pm 21 degrees in the van.
