Tues, 10th Oct, 2023 Bilpin Reserve Rest Area, Bilpin to Linda & David’s place, Annangrove, NSW

Nice sleep in again. 8am 13 degrees, nippy but we didn’t need the heater on.

Overcast I think or is it low cloud being up here on the mountain.

Packed up and drove through Bilpin with is a little community. Nice mural. Passed signs about apple cider and homemade apple pies.

1867 church at Kurrajong.

A few glimpses down to the flats of north west Sydney as we take the steep descent at Bellbird Hills.

Continuing downhill through more rural areas, home and lots of school as we are driving through all the school zones.

Down onto the flat and straight into street lights and traffic.

Programmed Girlie to take us to Riverstone where Diesel Conversions Aust (AE 4x4) are - who we bought the engine off. Across the wide Hawkesbury River with lots of horse paddocks near it.

Nice drive along the side of the Richmond Air Force Base with lush trees lining the road.

Finally arrived at our destination according to Girlie. No name on the shop front but there were a small DCAs on the fence so Steve went inside and found two chaps, one was Steve who we had chatted to via email. Steve gave him back the first injector pump and chatted about the engine etc. DCA Steve said they weren’t importing any more after receiving our email as they were having too many problems. They are concentrating on other 4x4 things and engines for other vehicles instead and will still carry parts etc if we need anything. He said he was very impressed with Steve’s work and said the one thing about DIY was that now Steve knows where every pipe and wire goes on the engine so if it breaks he will know where and how to fix it - so true. We chatted for a while and he agreed that Steve should replace the starter motor sooner than later as it is getting old and coped a beating when the engine wouldn’t work recently, which might also explain the slow start up sometimes.

I rang my second cousin Linda to see if she was home as they live nearby. She was so I programmed Girlie and off we went. So lovely to see Linda again and we noticed they have been busy adding on another wing to the house where we parked our van last time and another room on the other side. The room was for her Dad who went to join Mum & Dad recently too. The other wing is their ‘Great Hall’ with big exposed beams etc - quite old world and looks amazing with all her beautiful furniture - she certainly has an eye for it.

David came home as he has recently retired and we went around to a nearby hotel for lunch which was an old wool shed. Had a great time chatting. Back home again and we decided to stay for the night so left the camper where it was on the drive.

Their sons live on the property too in the old houses at the front of the acreage so they came down to say hi. Daniel has a lovely little girl, Scarlett and his wife Joanne had just gone back to work for the first time after her birth today so she was a bit worn out. Nick and his partner, Aidan, came down too so it was great to see them again as they were young lads when we last saw them.

After her father passed away they sold the home in Port Macquarie and have just bought one side of a duplex at Wallabi Point near Old Bar, up the coast. It looks amazing. They will be there in January so we might call in on our way to Melbourne.

Linda’s sister, Judy is now living in ACT on acreage too.
