Strong
wind brought in the clouds. 20 degrees at 8am.
Rang
Mum again – waiting for a Professor Doctor from the Uni who is bringing in
student’s to check Mum’s heart out!!
Drove
into town to go into the van park to watch the V8 broadcast on Channel 10 of
Bathurst. But first we stopped in the park and I went online to see if we could
change our flights to head home early. There was a flight midnight on Sunday
night so we decided to go. Easy to do online and they have made making payments
very easy too.
Had
a cuppa, rang Mum to let her know we are coming home. She was very happy so I
am glad we decided to go. Rang Lara about leaving the van and truck at their
property at Wattle Grove. It isn’t far from the airport too which is very
handy. Sometimes things are meant to be – meeting them, their kind offer and
the ease of changing the flights means we were meant to go home.
Top
up the fuel (136.9c/l) and headed south on the Great Northern Highway – about
600km to Perth. The sky cleared as we headed south.
Enjoying
the occasional displays of wildflowers under the shrubs along the roadside.
Turned
off into Paynes Find for lunch. There is only a roadhouse and a historical gold
battery – the only one still working and it is run by a lady. Will have to
check that out next time. Dave & Majella had given us a GPS mark of where
they found gold at Fields Find nearby so we will be back.
First
view of the wheat fields. The wind has come up but it is blowing on the side so
we aren’t fighting a head wind though Steve says it buffets the van but all
good.
Listening
to the radio, can only get ABC as usual, as the CD player has stopped – too
much red dirt!! There is a fire ban from Menzies to Kalgoorlie already.
Into
Wubin for a cuppa – wheat and railway museums to check out. Only a small town
but there are two servos, 122.9 c/l for diesel – bit of a drop from Mt Magnet.
The pub is closed down. Big signs advising us we are Mallee Fowl country.
Some
more pretty flowers.
The
highway is rougher than the dirt roads and it is the National 95!! Must be all
the big trucks – I reckon someone should get a better railway system working so
lessen the trucks on the road. Big silo at Dalwallinu.
Some
sheep.
The
fields go on and on. Big trees line the roads.
Nice
hotel at Miling. There is a Merino Stud nearby.
Pulled
off the road as a pilot vehicle drives towards us up the middle of the road.
Two
big mine trucks.
More
‘houses’ being taken along the highway on the back of semis but they weren’t as
wide as the big machines but we pulled off anyway.
Road
is much better now. Greg will be impressed – he always says it is made that we
only have a thin white line separating cars – here they a wider middle line and
lots of signs.
Into
New Norcia (est 1847) where there is a lot of beautiful buildings where the
Benedictine Monks live. Definitely will be back to check all this out.
At
Yarawindah we spotted a big dish – then a sign stating ‘Satellite Tracking
Station’.
Passed
a dead echidna on the side of the road – poor thing. Texted my cousin Judy to
see if they were free but Richard is very sick so will see them when we come
back in December. My other cousin, Linda, is away so will see her later too.
Passed
a lot of fields with little yellow flowers appearing – Steve thought it was
canola so texted Malcolm to check. Steve was right!!
Hillier
country still with lots of wildflowers on the roadside. A lot of Black Boys
appearing too. Passed Stephens Road near Bindoon.
Lots
of citrus trees at Bindoon. Nice little township but it’s diesel is 139.9c/l!!
Turned
off to camp by Brockman River (in the Swan/Avon Catchment Area) – drove 12km
down Chittering Road to a roadside area (looked nicer on the Hema Map). Still
80km to Perth but it is getting late.
Check
out the info board then the info about the travelling Monk.
There
was also a little sign saying no camping – oops. We are camping though – just
parking!!
Mum
is home and looking forward to sleeping in her bed.
