Sat, 14th Apr, 2018 Bush camp, 120km north of Laverton, WA

7.30am 16.6 degrees, clear sky.

Worked together on our ‘patch’. Then I went over it more thoroughly with my 2300.

Steve went wandering again to try and find another ‘patch’.

Back home. This time the other vehicle saw us so I gave them a wave and they came in to say hello. Paul and Terry are from Perth and have been coming here for years. The camp down the track was for a couple of well drillers and an aboriginal chap called Griffo. Terry had lots of stories of all the gold they and others have found around this area. One was about finding reef gold beside one of the shafts, hidden by a tree and they pulled out 18 ounces of gold then left it for Griffo and the others to get out more – had to dig deep for it though. Another ‘hole’ produced 40 ounces – now that would be nice to find.

They said the two mining companies, Regis Resources and Duketon Mining, that are working the area are ok with detectorists. Duketon are starting to do some more exploration up near the Battery site so the people camped up there might have to move. They said they were from South Aust.

They headed back to camp so we got the fire going and rested for a bit before heading into the van for dinner and early showers.

Very peaceful here except for the clunk of the windmill and a few birds flittering around and the occasional buzz of some flies. A little bat joins us to catch the bugs as twilight descends.

NO PHOTOS TODAY.
