13 degrees, clear sky and no wind.
Packed up and headed out the rough track. Gave the others a toot as we left. As we headed back up over the big tree roots the back wheels skidded. Steve put the diff locks on but the wheel was spinning so he just filled up the hole with rocks and we drove out easily! Yeah for Steve - I just sit and hold on tight!! It certainly is a 4WD access camp spot.
Onto Skull Springs Road again and as we crested a rise I got phone signal. Ray and Carol texted they had arrived at Kurundi in NT but not finding much and the grass is high. Will let them know if we are going up when we get to Alice Springs.
Continued on till we crossed the flowing water at Oakover River. Zoomed in further up the lagoon.
Pulled over and made a cuppa to enjoy beside the running water. A wall of water came through here if you looked at the logs etc stuck up in the trees. A lot of big branches down too which was probably from the Cyclone.
Steve went for a walk and found a camp spot which looked over another bigger lagoon so we moved up there for the night. We were going to stop at Carawine Gorge which we explored in 2016 but this spot is so nice we decided it will do us and we will save the fuel driving in and out the 28km to the Gorge. Up on the high bank but we don’t have to worry about crocodiles etc here - maybe just a cow or two. The lagoon appears fairly shallow.
The wind is still cool but it was nice in the sun so put the chairs down by the water and read our books.
Went for a walk along the track as it crossed more branches of the river. Very picturesque. Bit churned up in the gravel to get around the tree but Steve says it will be ok.
Up onto the hard ground on the other side then we walked back to camp for lunch. Played a few games of cards. Another couple drove in with their van but decided to continue on to Carawine Gorge instead. Two mine vehicles went by so not much traffic about today. Max of 26 today.
Walked back to where we crossed the water and wandered around checking out the different gullies and another big lagoon further downstream.
Lots of birds to listen too as we had our drinks by the fire and watched the sun disappear behind the trees.
The stars came out and we spotted a heap of satellites. The wind has stopped so it was very pleasant outside. Eventually we went in for dinner and a movie.
