Fri, 12th Dec, 2014 Wet Caves Reserve, Caveside

Lovely sleep in as it is overcast and the clouds are hanging low on the mountains. It had rained again during the night. We were going hiking to the falls but will wait till later to see if it clears.

Sat around in our pjs doing my blog and Steve watching “Sunrise” then anything else that came on!! 10.30 heard an engine and a man was driving up on a ride on mower. Told Steve to get dressed so he could see what it was about. The man was the National Parks Ranger but they only gave him a little mower to do his areas. He also looks after Devils Gullet and areas around here like Alum Cliffs. Steve offered to move the van but he was ok but Steve shifted the car anycase. They are just starting to get this area ready to National Parks level but he didn’t say anything about us staying which was good. Just told Steve about the sights to see around the area. Might try and get to Alum Cliffs this afternoon as he said the cloud won’t worry it.

A group of guys walked up so Steve “The Tour Guide” told them all about the caves. The Ranger said there are more up the hill but you need to be any experienced caver to tackle those. There is a lady in Mole Creek that takes tours.

Steve got out his other metal detector to see what was around. Found $2 and 1 cent coins and some melted aluminium. At least it was money!!

I put my 3 ingredient fruit cake in the oven and prepared Ecopot lamb chops for dinner. Made an early cuppa with fruit cake – yum then we were going for a drive. A white Nissan drove in with Qld plates so we waved and they stopped. Penny & Peter are from Maryborough and arrived on the rough trip across Monday morning. We exchanged places to see etc as she had wickycamps so we checked out a few spots I had been told about.

They went to Cradle Mountain yesterday and had clear sky and got burnt. She had lovely photos but I am happy with mine so don’t think I will drag Steve back there!! They like gold detecting too so we had lots to chat about.

Too late now to sightsee so went for a walk down the road to Caveside (5km return). It are a few houses along the road with dairy cows and sheep and at the sign of Caveside was a church and that was about it. We passed a road “Pool Road” so will check if it leads to a pool as Wet Cave Road leads to the caves and Westmorland Falls Road goes to the falls!! Lots of bunnies in one field who scurried into the blackberry bushes along the fence line when they heard us.

Back to the van for a nice drink and nibbles (just a little bit) overlooking our nice setting.

No fire tonight as the mist is settling in for another drizzly night. Glad we have the generator.

NO PHOTOS TODAY
