Mon, 16th Mar, 2015 Northeast Park, Scottsdale (gold prospecting in Lefroy)

Colder night though it was 13 degrees when we got up at 7.30am. Not as cold as yesterday and overcast – no blue sky. 7 months on the road today. It has gone fast but we have packed a lot into it.

Packed the lunch etc and headed off to Bridport to meet up with Mick & Anne and Berkeley to look for gold in the State Forest near Lefroy. There was a fire there recently which makes it easier to detect and this was old gold mining area though for small alluvial gold but you never know if you never go!!

Another couple who prospect with Mick joined us and we found the burnt out area and they all headed off beeping in the bush. I stayed with the truck working on my blog. Lots of rubbish and no gold. These mines were deep down but there is no harm in trying.

Drove through some more tracks to a slate mine. Stopped near a tunnel. Steve got out a torch and he and Berkeley went in for a look. They went in quite a distance and it was well formed and still in good shape.

Tried in another area for gold then headed back to Bridport. Said by to the others then followed Berkeley around to his place. He has a huge backyard that we can park in if we want. Might do that before heading out to the east coast in April. Had a cuppa with him and his wife Liz. Great views over the bay out to Waterhouse Island .

Headed back to Scottsdale. Packed with vans again. Getting cooler at 5.30 so went inside to look at the tickets back on the ship. Anne said there was a special on at the moment. Booked for the 10th June, first available date and saved $220.

Weather forecast is for a couple of rainy days – oh well.
