Overcast
and cold, 15 degrees at 8am. Nearly put the heater on!!
Erica
rang to say that Steve’s cousin, Gael, lost her son Adam this morning in a car
accident. Our thoughts are with all the family at this very sad time.
Headed
into Bowral to see Mum’s cousin, Charlie Windle. The sun has come out and it is
a little warmer but I stayed in my Jeans and long sleeves. Got into Bowral
early so had a quick walk around the block. Found a Delorean from Back to the
Future. The owner has a shop – The Sell Block. It was made from polished
stainless steel. Just needed the ‘flux convertor’ in the back!! Even had the
right number plate – the car had to be doing 88 MPH to jump.
In
the park we found a fountain with floating marble ball and lots of plaques
about the people and businesses of the area. Very interesting reading.
Don
Bradman and his family lived here.
(Can't work out why this won't display the correct way - tried turning them and then uploading but it just goes that way!!)
Any
relation Alan?
Another
sporting great, Heather Turland.
Nearly
back to the car near the old Milk Factory which is now an art gallery. Some
statues doing the ‘Marilyn’ pose.
Around
the Charlie’s and he greeted us warmly. Sadly his wife, Norma, passed away last
year. Jannette is now keeping him company. Over a cuppa he shared some memories
of going to Casula to visit his cousins. I took photos of his photographs to
add to the family tree and Fred Windle’s facebook page.
Charlie
& Norma on their wedding day.
His
brother, Fred.
Charlie
& Fred’s parents, Norman and Gwen Windle.
Charlie
and Jannette.
Said
our goodbyes, so nice to meet them. Headed back to Berrima. Lots of people in
town at the cafes and shopping in the boutiques. Another vintage car trundles
by.
Another
van was waiting to get into our spot. Oops. We apologised and quickly packed
up. The other 3 spots were free but obviously the lady doing the bookings just
fills No. 1 first. The couple were ok and Steve chatted with them while I made
some lunch.
Onto
the Hume Highway again. Steve reckons the truck is going better after the
tune-up – I would hope so!! Lots of green Poplars line the road – we were so
used to seeing just the dead looking branches so it is nice to see them so
green.
Lots
of wind turbines on the hill tops as we head towards Gunning but they were only
just turning around today. Unfortunately looks like we are heading into cloud
again.
Turned
off the highway into Gunning (560m elevation). I said ‘look for the swimming
pool as the free camp is in the car park’. Well we couldn’t miss it – packed
with vans. Another van was in front of us and they just whizzed in and took the
first spot they saw. We pulled up and walked around to check out the area. A
chap said to park down beside him next to the creek so I stood on the spot as
another motorhome drove around Steve! Got into our spot which I think was
probably the best one.
There
was a walkway over the weir so I walked across to get some photos.
Made
a cuppa and then settled in for a chat with our neighbours, Pete and Pauline,
who were from Tinaroo. The other couple, Alf & Jill, were from Bundaberg -
they have been on the road for 8 years. Lovely afternoon chatting till the sun
dropped and so did the temperature. Pete had an app on his Ipad that showed the
planes details as they pass overhead – no wonder the bad guys can shoot them
out of the sky – it gives all the details – what plane, where going, how fast,
what height – amazing.
It
was still 20 degrees in the van. I had put tea in the Ecopot earlier so just
had to do some vegies. Rang Mum to tell her about meeting her cousin, Charlie.
We
had taped the delayed broadcast of the Sunday V8 race in New Zealand so settled
in to watch it. Apparently Craig had had a massive crash yesterday but they
rebuilt his car and then Jamie & Craig came home 1st and 2nd
in today’s race. Louis texted later to say he was just watching the broadcast –
of course we see it an hour earlier – I was nice and didn’t say who won!!
The
clouds have all gone which has made it a lot colder tonight with the clear sky.
