Tues, 14th Feb, 2017 Betty’s Beach Campground, east of Albany, WA

Heavy rain overnight – the little lake was full again in the carpark and it had flowed quickly down the road making ruts.

We listen to the ABC radio to check the weather warnings and the bridge on the South Coast Highway before Ravensthorpe is still broken so we won’t be heading that way yet.

9am the sun is out and warming us up – shorts and singlet – yeah!! Opened up the van for the first time in a while.

Leanne & Rick rang for a chat which was wonderful.

The wind has stopped and the water is blue and clear and it all looks so inviting again – amazing how much the weather can change your perception of a place!!

Had a cuppa then went fishing off the beach. The others were using a burley ball and hook to catch herring but we wanted whiting so put on squid. Lots of nibbles then Steve brought in a nice whiting, 30 cm long. That is my Valentine’s Day present. I then got the other end of the scale, 3cm long whiting and an equally small flathead!! No more whiting so I cooked it up for lunch. Cloudy again.

Sun out again about 2pm so we went for a walk around to the other beach area. The water is so clear. As the wave broke I could see a school of herring in the wave.

Coffee then drinks with Peter & Judi from Albany. Spotted some fish jumping near the rocks but they were herring so we didn’t bother getting our fishing rods.

Misty rain came over at 6pm so headed back into the van.
