8am
31 degrees. At 5am it was 29 degrees, much nicer for sleeping. Shame it takes
all night to drop to that temperature though. Cloud and no wind. I woke to hear
a light sprinkle of rain during the night.
I
helped Steve with the other water bore as the sun was out so we could see how
much water there was down there. Unfortunately only what was in the pipe so we
tried the other bore and it was the same. While we were shifting I heard a
scratching sound coming from the first bore and looked down to see Cyril trying
to climb back out. We didn’t see him go down it but realised he might need a
hand getting out. Steve poked a branch down it so he could get a grip on
something and eventually he climbed out. Slowly walked back to the cottage,
sulking!! We put a big rock over the hole so no one else tries to go down
there.
We
took the pump back to the original well and shifted and angled the solar panels
so they get the sun better. Will see how it goes now it hasn’t been used in a
few days and we will just have to turn the pump on and off depending on the
quantity of water available.
Cooled
off with lunch in the pool, 40 degrees in the van and there is only a light
breeze.
I
worked on my blog in the cottage while Steve worked on fixing the second hand
gas hot water system so he can install it on the shower block.
I
heard banging at the screen door and Cyril was trying to climb up the door. I
scared him away but he came back a few times. I had cooked our lamb chops in
the Ecopot so maybe he could smell that. He eventually gave up and climbed into
the bird bath and laid there for a while – shame I didn’t have my camera with
me.
Dark
clouds and thunder rumbling as a storm heads from the north down the east side
of us. Lots of strong northerly wind now too which is whipping up the dust.
More
dark clouds building in the west too so we sat outside for drinks as the sun
was hidden and it was quite pleasant. Watched all the cattle wander in for
drinks – spotted a big black bull I haven’t seen before.
Steve
went to check the well again – still pumping water up to our tank. He also
noticed fresh wheel tracks that had just driven in and turned around near the
well – wonder who that was! As we aren’t sure about the vehicle being left up
at the other well we decided to take the old ute for a drive out to the highway
to see where this ‘visitor’ went. The sun was setting under the band of clouds
so I got some lovely photos as we drove along.
The
vehicle appears to have just driven in, turned around and went back out. We
headed back home. I checked Tengraph to see where that drill rig was and it isn’t
on any mining land so maybe it was stolen. Will send Rob an email about it with
a photo of the vehicle.
All
still again now at dinner time, 37 degrees and cloudy. Got the fans going while
we watched our movie. Turned off the generator tonight as it should be a bit
cooler so the fridges should be ok. We put our van one onto gas so we are ok.
