Fri, 7th Oct, 2022 The Bluff Camping at Point Quobba, north of Carnarvon to Outback Oasis Van Park, Carnarvon, WA

Disturbed sleep with the wind shaking everything. Our black mats outside are now buried under the sand. Clear sky and wind still blowing.

Rang Rick for his birthday.

The Ranger stopped by to check we had paid for last night which we had. Decided to go into Carnarvon and into the van park for tonight as I don’t think we will be getting in for a snorkel with this wind.

Steve gave the back of the camper a wash as we will be filling up the tanks in town and the back was mostly red from all the dirt roads. I rang Rebecca for a chat.

We drove around to the day use area near ‘the Aquarium’. The wind seems to have settled a bit but still chilly. The Ranger stopped again to make sure we knew we couldn’t camp there - but we had already told him we were heading back into town!

Made a cuppa and chatted with a Perth family who said the fish here are better than up north as they have snorkelled all of them so we might come back after the weekend if the wind settles. We chatted about the Kimberleys as they would like to do that next year. The wind is making the waves crash on the other side.

I did walk down and put my feet in the water - chilly.

Back to the main highway and down to the van park in Carnarvon. It is a small park and not expensive. As we were having an extra night we got another discount for 3 nights. We dropped the camper off.

Steve tried our TV but could only get Channel 10 and that was very unreliable any case. There is a big entertainment shed with a big TV and 3 old recliners, pool table and table tennis, darts etc. I tried the big TV in the shed and found Channel 7 and the Supercars broadcast was on and Qualifying was to start in half hour - good timing. We are 3 hours behind the East Coast now due to daylight saving in NSW. It is pouring with rain in Bathurst so we are glad we aren’t there this year. Might go next year since we will be back over the east for Jon’s wedding. They managed to get qualifying done between the rain.

Jon rang for a chat - enjoying being home with Annalise.

After a cuppa we went for a drive into town. Sunny but the wind is still blowing hard and quite chilly. We walked over the old rail line bridge and nearly got blown off. Nice houses with water frontage.

Went to the Info Centre to find out about where to get fish and chips for dinner. There is a fish food van that will set up after 5pm near the esplanade so we will come back to get some dinner for a treat.

Back to the camper for drinks beside the camper which was blocking the wind - not too bad here. Realised it was Libby’s birthday today so sent her a message. Enjoying life in Redcliffe. Rang Suzanne for a chat too.

Back into town for Snapper & Chips and a couple spring rolls, dim sims and some marinated squid tentacles! Back to the camper for dinner - wrapped in paper like when we were kids having fish and chips on the floor with Mum and Dad - every Wednesday night! We sat at the table as there is no room on our floor! The fish was big and lovely but the chips could have been crunchier and the tentacles were different!
