15 degrees minimum though we had a nice sleep in to 7.45am!
Kayleigh’s birthday so sent her good wishes via Facebook.
The blue sky is spotted with fluffy white clouds and there is a light breeze.
Packed up and followed the 4WD track. Chatted with a couple going for a walk. Someone is camped in the fire camp area.
The rocks look like a brick wall.
We ran along the side of the hills. Nice view back across to part of Hamersley Range and then over the flats.
Continued up and down some hills then a steeper one so we parked at the bottom and walked up.
We think this is ‘Peacock’ ore. The track is cut through the top then around the hills so we decided we had come far enough, especially with the camper on the back. It was probably an old exploration track.
Looking back to where Hamersley Gorge is.
Nice photo of the ant hills and the hills.
Back to the camping area. We drove up to where another couple were parked on the rise - great view and had a cuppa and chatted with them for a bit. They were from Grafton, NSW.
Headed out - more people parked at the road closed sign so we stopped to say it won’t be open today. They had just rung the park office and found out - not impressed.
We headed back to the turn off and continued on more dirt road - another one we haven’t traversed before. Turned onto bitumen to Tom Price. Over a hill - nice view towards town and Mt Nameless that has a 4WD track to the top that we climbed in Pat previously.
We drove down the Mine Road to the industrial area at the base of Mt Nameless for the cheaper fuel ($2.329). For the more energetic there is a walking track up to the summit!
We continued on the bitumen road to Kings Lake to have lunch. Nice green grass - the lake is small and surrounded by reeds so you can’t see much. Jon and Annalise had sent a photo of their ‘pet’ goanna so we rang them for a chat.
Continued on the bitumen on this other road out of town heading to the coast. Joined back to the main road which is gravel - go figure!
Past a hill that has been mined then around the base of it to big shed, conveyor belt etc.
Back onto bitumen at the turn off to Paraburdoo. Still travelling through spinifex covered hills and areas of red dirt, dry grass and small trees.
Past the turn off to Cheela Plains where there is camping and a cafe. We had gone down this road previously when we went to Mt Augustus etc.
Across the dry Beasley River to the 24 hr Rest Area where we parked in the shade of the gums for the night. We are the only ones here at 3pm.
Quiet afternoon reading. A family pulled in with their hired motorhome in the late afternoon. A few clouds still - catching the last rays of sunshine. Light cool breeze.
Another car drove in once night had fallen and parked near us but otherwise it is quiet.
The wind picked up during the evening shaking the trees around us. Hopefully none of the branches will fall off.
