Sat, 24th Feb, 2024 Rest Area on Steve Irwin Way, near Beerwah to Geck Beach House, Woodgate, Qld (David’s birthday)

25 degrees min. A fine mist of rain for a short while and remained overcast.

The traffic had gotten going early and the cicadas never slept!

Back on the highway and headed north. Diesel at Gympie for $1.959/L. Will be great when they get this bypass finished.

I googled up distances and Geelong to Tweed Heads is 1737km and Tweed Heads to Cairns is 1801.5km.

Back onto the one lane Bruce Highway with people desperate to zoom around us rather than wait for the overtaking lanes!

Stopped for a quick cuppa at Tiaro - sky clearing and quite hot outside.

Fran messaged her sister-in-law is hosting a baby shower tomorrow. Kaylene & Annalise are going so I asked Kaylene to get a photo of the two girls and their baby bumps for me.

Turned off at Childers and headed to Woodgate. Onto the Esplanade - the sea is calm.

No one was at the house so we parked beside the house.

Checked out the slab and shed kit. They had to delay the pour last week because of rain so hopefully they will get it done this Tuesday.

Rang Maralyn, she and Greg were with Terry having a drive down to Walkers Point. I said how about lunch at the club and rang to make a booking. They had their dog but that was ok as we can sit on the verandah. Carmel and Merv had gone into Bundaberg for the night - shame to miss them.

Had a lovely lunch and catch up. Maralyn said that Tully had over 400mm of rain yesterday so the roads were closed and it is king tides too. Since Carmel and Merv aren’t here tonight we decided to stay for the night. Maralyn & Greg are in the van park since Carmel & Merv had the house. We arranged to meet for drink at Erica’s chair on the beach later. Terry headed back to Bundaberg. Will see him tomorrow as I have things I left there from Christmas.

Quick chat with Tony to thank him for the photos and updates about the shed slab etc. Steve got the temperamental whipper-snipper going and trimmed up the long grass out the back. Ted had mowed the lawn with his ride-on so it only needed a bit of a trim up.

I did some washing as it is very hot and humid but with a heavy cloud cover. Stripped the flannelette sheets off the bed as I don’t think we will be having any chilly nights again for a while.

Met Maralyn and Greg at Erica’s bench seat for drinks and chatted with another couple enjoying the view too.

Maralyn got a nice photo of the full moon rising before it disappeared into the cloud bank. Said bye - will see them again when we get back home.

Made dinner and sat under the house catching up on the news etc on the TV for a change.
