Daniel’s
26th birthday – sent him a text to wish him a great day even though
he is at work.
8.6
degrees in the van at 7am so we put the heater on. Clear blue sky again.
Checked the outside temp at 8.30am and it was only 5.3 degrees outside – so
happy we bought the heater!
Headed
off at 9am to check out chairs at Rays & Anaconda down the road. Anaconda
was having a great sale so we got 2 new chairs as the old ones (a few years old
now) are starting to sag (too much food in us) and the pop rivets are
breaking!!
Across
the Tasman Bridge and into Hobart, there is a cloud over the top of Mt
Wellington today. Parked near the wharf area next to the Museum. We laughed as
we saw the sign that it is closed on Monday – I’m not meant to go to that one!
Walked
across to Mures for a cuppa then headed back through town for a wander through
the shops. Stopped at the oldest pub in Australia but it was closed too!!
Peered in the window for a photo of the bar – Steve liked the barmaid!!
Went
down to Salamanca Market area and had a lovely steak & chips lunch at the
Irish Murphy Pub.
Just
loved the quote outside – will post it for Andrea.
Lovely
inside.
Watched
the council workers’ antics trying to remove all the fallen leaves from the
trees dropping them in the park.
Round
to the Blood Bank for my whole blood donation, then down to Mures for the
‘Stairway to Heaven’ icecream, which is heavenly.
The
clouds have lifted to we headed up to Mt Wellington to check out the snow.
Passed a waterfall near the Chalet that was flowing well with snow water.
At
1200m we saw the first big lot of snow.
Then
more and more as we headed to the top (1300m).
There
was a little patch where we parked so Steve put some on the windscreen.
Have
so enjoyed our time in the southern part of Tasmania.
We
have our big coats on but it isn’t freezing as there is only a light wind. Temp
gauge says it is 7 degrees outside.
Didn’t
even put our gloves on though they are frozen after playing with the snow.
Looking back to the tower.
Walked
down the boardwalk for some more photos – looking at South Arm where we went
the other day.
Snow
still sitting in a bush.
Someone
made a little snowman.
It
was quite a good fall as the snow is deep.
Walked
down to another lookout – such a spectacular viewpoint.
Playing
with the snow which really was crunchy ice.
Is
this a snowflake!!
Steve
got some more snow to put on his side and we will see how long it lasts as we
head back to Sorell.
Oops
not all of it wanted to come with us.
Stopped
at the The Springs as I noticed some info boards that I didn’t see last time we
were here.
The
sun is going down and we say goodbye to Hobart – have enjoyed it immensely.
Steve’s
snow didn’t make it as the lump blew off on the highway but mine hung in till
it melted just before Sorell.
As
we cross over the causeways the sun is setting and the water is as flat as a
tack. We have had 3 perfect days here.
Dan rang - he had a good day and bought himself his favourite dessert - cheesecake - to celebrate his birthday.
Back
to the van and on with the heater. Steve put our old chairs (which are still
functional) under the picnic area for the next tourist who is in need of a
seat.
