13
degrees in the van at 7am. Clouds over the horizon so no sunrise photos this
morning. Packed up our lunch and headed off to Elephant Pass to watch Targa.
Stopped at the bottom check point and chatted with the Stage Director. He said
we could stop at either spot so decided on the bottom one with bigger corner
and more view of the road. He gave us a ‘official 2015’ cap each and another
chap gave us a poster of his mate’s Mustang.
The
Historic Cars drove by in a group while we were chatting with the Director so I
didn’t have my camera!!
Pulled
into the spot where another car was already parked. Officials turned up then a
chap from Sunshine Coast arrived. A Police car came past at 10.30 to close the
road then we have an hour’s wait for the first of the cars to come through.
The
Porsche owners tour group came past first. We sat further around in the middle
of the corner which was a good spot as we could watch them come up towards us
around a couple of little bends.
Then
past us and around the corner and then out of view around another corner. We
could hear them for about the 10 next corners too, especially the ones with
squeaky brakes!!
Then
the Targa Tasmania competitors came past in 30 second intervals. Such a variety of cars. There were a
few that hit the bumps and got a bit loose but no crashes. The Official said
that one had stopped further up from us and another was missing too.
A
cute Bambino.
I
missed Jim Richards and Tony Quinn when their cars came past. One for Malcolm – a Clubman.
A
leech was on my jeans so I flicked him off. He then worked his way back up to
me again so he got a bigger flick and stayed away.
A
‘Jonny’ ute as Steve calls the Malloos now.
When
we headed back down we found the one that was missing!! It had hit the bank on
one side and ended up over in the ditch on the other side. Unfortunately a chap
walked into my photo!!
It
happened just up from the starting point.
Back
to the van for a late lunch of some of the fish we caught. Was quite nice – I
had cut off any blood bits. Then to the beach to try and catch some more fish.
Unfortunately – no nibbles. Lucky I have a chicken carcass to feed the kittens
with!! Chatted with Julie on the beach, wife of the chap from Nowra we met
before (his name is David).
Grabbed
a drink and headed over to Julie and David’s 5th wheeler for a chat.
David was helping out Bob and Jenny (from Somerset) so went over there and we
all chatted. Bob had a terrible burning smell in the van when he put his little
genie on. The boys went searching and found the power point surge protector had
burnt out that they had plugged the fridge into. Bob and Jenny invited us to
call in on them before we leave.
Chops
in the bushcooker tonight so the kittens enjoyed the extra nibbles and came in
close to us. Steve had noticed sand on our chairs this morning so it looks like
they are enjoying some comforts as well!!
Erica
rang so say that Aunty Eva’s daughter Brenda had passed away this morning. Sad
for her and sad for Eva to have to outlive her daughter.
Put
the genie on for a while as we aren’t getting enough sunshine for the solar
panels here in amongst the trees.
