Fri, 26th June, 2015 ‘Waanyarra’, Dunolly State Forest

15 degrees at 8am in the van and 8.8 degrees outside at 8.30am. Cloudy. Steve put on his glasses and one arm fell off. Will take it into town to get fixed. He got out his spare and tried to bend the arm out a bit and it snapped in half. Oops. He could still wear the spare pair luckily.

Steve helped Keith fix his fridge. I made the yummy pumpkin cake.

After lunch headed into Maryborough to get fuel, water and groceries. Couldn’t get the glasses fixed.

Drove up to the Bristol Hill Tower lookout. The Tower was erected during the Great Depression (1929-1935), using funds from the Unemployment Relief Committee, to employ unemployed people. It is a memorial commemorating the pioneers of the region and was opened on 16 April, 1933. The name comes from the Bristol Reef which operated here during the gold rush days.

We climbed the narrow circular staircase that takes you to the top, the bluestone came from the Maryborough Goal buildings.

Great view over Maryborough. Very flat with a few low ranges in the distance.

Headed back to get the fire going for our campoven roast. Steve got out the glue Dan gave him when we left and was able to get the arm glued back onto the frame. Will have to get a new frame organised when we get back to Cairns.

Members of the Bendigo Detector Club have started arriving for their weekend meeting here. Steve will try in get some tips!!

Clear sky while we sat by the fire with the half moon shining brightly. The temperature has dropped very quickly and it was 4 degrees at 8pm, luckily it was nice and warm by the fire and then the van was toasty at 20 degrees when we went in to eat dinner.
