14
months on the road. It is just so natural way of life now.
15
degrees in the van but it is sunny with a clear blue sky. Apparently it will
get to 28 today. Hard to choose what to wear as I am cold to start but need to
be in shorts and t-shirt by lunch! Found our names and Leanne & Rick’s as
volunteers in the back of the Bathurst 1000 program.
Posted
the camera off so hopefully they will have decided what’s what by the time we
get there. Packed up and topped up with water. Stopped at the weighbridge and
paid the $25. The truck and towball weight was 4 t with truck full of fuel and
van full of water. 6.94 t for the total of truck and van. 2.9t for weight on
the axles of the van.
Last
shot of Mt Panorama as we headed out of Bathurst towards Lithgow.
All
roads out of Bathurst go up a hill!!! Climbed up to 920m then down and up again
to 1050m. Truck noticing the warmer weather.
At
Williamson Springs we were at 1150m.
Turned
off the highway toward the village of Sunny Corner. Further up the road is Dark
Corner!! Lots of forestry pine plantations all through here.
Through
the little quiet village of Sunny Corner at 1200m – didn’t see anyone. Just on
the outskirt was the Recreation Reserve. Lovely big open grassy area so found a
spot and set up camp. Lovely aroma of pine needles in the air.
I
worked on my blog as I am so far behind. Steve went for a wander to get timber
and found a treasure – girlie magazine!!
While
I was writing up the Legends of Motorsport from Bathurst I read that Sunny
Corner was part of the first official motorbike Grand Prix track. It was 15.5
mile track linking the villages of Kirkconnell, Sunny Corner and Meadow Flat.
The first race was held on the 5th October, 1914 with 32 riders
starting but only 9 finished.
Getting
warmer so opened all the windows – not something we have done for a long while.
A couple and their 3 girls arrived in a sedan then set up their tent etc.
Amazing what they fitted in the car.
Steve
got the fire going so I got the phone and we chatted with Kaylene then Wendy.
Rang Uncle John again as he wanted to chat to Steve about Malcolm’s race car.
Steve chatted with Steve Allard while I got dinner ready then we rang the
Pinks. Great to be able to chat with everyone.
Started
to get cool so we headed inside for dinner and to finish watching Sunday’s
Great Race.
Wow what a great blog, i really enjoyed reading this, good luck in your work. Blue Mountains Activities
