Lovely
sunny morning. So nice to be in shorts and t-shirts again. Won’t get to carried
away and put away the woollies just yet!!
Slowly
packed up. Steve drove into town to swap the gas bottle and fill up with
diesel. Leanne and Rick went for a couple laps around the track in their car –
Steve did one too apparently but in the car. He didn’t get to do the walk this
year!!
Leanne
and Rick have enjoyed the experience immensely and might sit down and watch the
race next year, or even volunteer again.
After
lunch we headed back out of the campground onto Mountain Straight then down Pit
Straight (the wrong way if you are racing!!)
The
cleaners are still tidying up the champagne splashes from the podium.
Last
look up to Amorall Bridge.
The
wind has blown all the pink flowers off the trees in the park on William
Street.
Big
drive down William Street onto main highway and across the Macquarie River into
Berry Park. Found a nice spot at the back with a few other V8 volunteers.
Pulled up ready for a cuppa after the long drive!! The clouds are coming in
again.
Steve
went for a walk down the road to Bunnings to get some angle to finish off the
walls he cut to do the chairs in the van. I headed around to the Showgrounds as
we had seen a big pile of jumps in the middle and thought that might be the BMX
track that is being built for the Australian Titles next year.
Stopped
to check out the old bridge across the Macquarie River. Don’t you just love
vandals!
I
probably took photos last year – should have checked the blog!!
Lovely
old showground buildings. Our friend Fred did a lot of work as a carpenter
restoring the buildings. $25 per night to camp there though someone said they were
charging $50 over the Bathurst week!!
Climbed
up into the pavilion to take a photo of the dirt mounds. Walked around the back
of the pavilion and there was a big truck with motorcross on it – asked the
chap and he said there had been a big race on Saturday night. Well that
answered that – still have to find the BMX track though.
Went
back to join the others around the fire for drinks. The other ladies had worked
as Corporate Ushers and Lyn was their supervisor. Sounds like a good job but it
is 7am to 5pm. They don’t follow the racing like I do though. Cooling off
enough to get a cardi then we headed in for dinner.
Early
to bed to catch up on some sleep.
