13.6
degrees in van at 7.30am, sunny and clear.
Boys
went detecting around camp area – Steve found one little bit.
I
researched a new battery to use in Jeff’s other 5000 or whether to buy a 2300
for me to use. We decided on the 2300 – oh that hurt the wallet but hopefully
it will pay for itself as it seems that is the weapon of choice now as it is
all the little bits everyone is picking up rather that the big ones.
After
lunch we went for a drive to ‘The Chimney’, a huge quartz wall. Amazing how it
is such a neat wall. Quite long too. We climbed over it and then further up the
hill where we climbed on top. I suppose the blocks standing up on the wall
looked like a chimney. I would have called it the Great Wall.
Very
interesting to see but no gold around it!!
Jeff
headed off in another direction and we went following tracks to find the
Alluvial Patches marked on the GeoMap. Found this well and tank stand – very
deep hole. I am amazed how they dug them in the old days.
Zoomed
down and we could see more timber reinforcing along way down.
Detected
at a few places where there had been pushes – machinery cleared areas, but no
luck. Tried to find the Alluvial Patch Mine marked on the Hema map but no go.
Nearby was diggings so maybe they were out in their GPS mark.
Steve
has detected here before and he and Jeff found a couple of bits. Steve pointed
out the snake skin which was beside a spot he dug. He was hoping the snake
didn’t come back for its coat!!
Further
along the track we found another hole – it is near a creek area so we think it
was a well rather than a mine.
Back
to camp as the sun was setting. His one bit of gold for the day – this isn’t
paying off the detector much but we are still having fun.
Lots
of nice comments on Facebook about my article from my friends.
Bit
breezy around the fire tonight but not too cold. Didn’t need the heater again
17 degrees at 8pm in the van.
