Fri, 26th May, 2017 Malcolm Dam, near Leonora to London Bridge, near Sandstone, WA (sightseeing)

11 degrees this morning. Packed up and said our farewells to Mark, Heidi and Wendy (Bob was in town getting his tyre fixed).

Into Leonora for fuel, water etc. I got some printouts from the Mines Dept of Lake Mason area so they others can see where we will be detecting.

Stopped for a cuppa at a Leonora Loop spot at Sullivan Creek that we stopped at last year. I haven’t seen any Wedgies yet though Steve said he saw a few around Malcolm Dam.

North to Leinster – the others drove into Leinster for a look while we waited at the turnoff and had lunch. Turned off the Goldfields Highway towards Sandstone. Turned off into Agnew – another gold town all but disappeared. A big mining operation is under way further along the road and they have set up a good display and information. Though one bit has fallen over as the white ants have chewed through the timber. (pressed the wrong button and wiped out two photos!!)

Across the road is the old hotel – Bob did some building work here years ago.

Continued on towards Sandstone. Stopped at Penny Denny Lookout – named after a former shire president who lobbied long and hard for the Mt Magnet to Leinster Road to be sealed. Great views of the breakaway though there is a fence now to stop tourists from wandering to far over the edge but the path is still here!! (Margaret is just in front of the fence). Plenty of room to camp here too but we decided to keep going to Sandstone.

Turned off 5km before Sandstone and drove down to the ‘Brewery’. We had checked this out last year but Kev and Linda haven’t seen this area.

Around to London Bridge. Don’t know who those galahs are.

Followed a track around to the back and parked up for the night. Got the fire going as the sun set.

Bit of breeze here which made it chilly but not as cold as it has been. Spotted 4 satellites – good to know they are still up there!!
