Wed. 13th Dec, 2017 Silver Sands Resort, Mandurah, WA (Perth sightseeing)

Another lovely morning. The Elect Board advised that would be turning off the power today so Kaylene and I headed to the Train Station to go into Perth for the day. Steve went over to Bob’s to help him with his new air bags and do a few bits on the truck.

We got off at Elizabeth Quay Station and then caught a bus around to Kings Park. We bought an All Day Rider Pass so we can get on any train, bus or ferry for the day for $12.60 – much simpler.

View from Bali Memorial over Perth.

War Memorial.

View from the Memorial over Perth, Swan River, The Narrows then Swan River as it winds its way down to the ocean and Fremantle.

Headed into the Botanical Gardens to check out the big Boab Tree. Kaylene found some Sturt Desert Peas.

Got another bus back to Williams Street. I spotted a big tree in a building and went in for a photo.

Kaylene commented that she had always wanted to go in one of these circular doorways so I sent her back in for another ‘ride’.

Headed into the Mall to check out the shops.

Continued down Piccadilly Arcade. Loved this sign.

Into Forrest Chase. Had a good look at Myer.

Wandered through London Court which is celebrating its 80th birthday. Kaylene found another dress shop.

Down to Elizabeth Quay and the Bell Tower. Big apartment building being constructed next to it.

Tried to find a cafĂ© but there isn’t many down by the river and it was very windy now. At least all the clouds have been blown away. I think the forecast was for a top of 24 today.

A new sculpture of a sailor. There is always something new to see.

Checked out The Kiosk – 1928 Tea Rooms.

Looking across the City of Perth.

The beautiful carousel was operating.

Eventually found a restaurant overlooking Elizabeth Quay – a lot of Christmas functions happening around here. Finished off with a yummy gelato for Kaylene and sorbet for me.

Onto the ferry for a ride across the Swan River to South Perth. We didn’t get to do this last year so it is great to be exploring something new with Kaylene. A bit of a choppy crossing.

The WA built ‘Decoy’ is a genuine ocean-going paddle steamer powered by a 1905 Ransomes Sims and Jefferies steam engine.

A lot calmer on this side. Looking across to east Perth and down to the Crown Casino.

South Perth – lots of accommodation here.

I took a photo of Kaylene then a lady stopped and offered to take our photo.

Spotted a Black Swan on the Swan River.

Walked along the foreshore and found a shag on a rock.

RAC is trialling a new Intellibus here. We spotted it coming down the road then pulling into a bus stop – that would be weird having no one driving.

Headed back to the wharf to catch the ferry back to Perth City. The other side of the paddle steamer.

Great view as we head back under the bridge to Elizabeth Quay.

Caught the train back to Mandurah then waited for a bus to take us back to the Resort. The pedestrian bridge over the highway looks similar to the one in Perth.

Time for a drink then into the spa followed by a sauna for our weary bodies and feet.

Got a message from Linda that the couple her and Kev house-sat for last year (we stayed there with them) were let down by house-sitters and needed someone from 21st to 30th Dec so she thought we might be interested. It is in Bunbury and we were going down that way to stay with Kev and Linda so we said yes. Will call in and see Marlene on Sunday to sort out the details etc.

Lovely dinner then watched a movie.
