Mon, 22nd Jan, 2018 Tom & Sandy’s, Orange Grove, WA

8am 26 degrees, light breeze.

Rang Mum and Dad as we saw on Sunrise the monsoon trough was sitting over Cairns. Not getting any more rain though.

Had a cuppa with Tom and Sandy then they took us to where they sell their gold. The chap was very helpful and gave us the purity percentage (gold vs silver etc in the nuggets). We had some fines from rocks Steve crushed and he suggested it might be better if we melted them down as it is hard to get a good reading on lots of little bits. Sold some off to cover the maintenance, tyres and suspension we have just done. Got a good price - $49.32 per gram (pure price, then we got what percentage it was, eg 97% of that).

Back to the van for lunch then Steve and I drove up to Reeds Prospecting shop to get new skip plates for our detectors and to buy a crucible and some flux to melt our little bits of gold. The new flux is easy to use. Equal amounts of gold and flux, mix together then heat til melted then pour straight off into your mould – we will use a potato and make a ‘button’.

Back home for drinks and games then BBQ dinner again – so nice to be eating outside all the time. Few games of Sequence and Skipbo as the wind didn’t come up tonight.
