7 months since Erica moved on to her next life.
The chooks were up early. The wind has settled, clear sky, 15 degree minimum, 17 degrees at 7am.
Headed off down the ‘Gillies Range’ style road along the mountain side. Someone has painted a big rock to look like a grand piano. I think I got a photo of it last visit. Into Tamborine Village. Left to Beaudesert then continued west to Boonah.
Across the Logan River - only a small shallow stream here. We have driving this road previously. Open cattle grazing with hills to roll up and down. Very dry.
Lots of Silky Oaks in bloom at Boonah. John and Julie had a lovely big one at the bottom of their property so now I know what to call them - when they are in bloom that is.
Continued on to Fassifern then turned north onto the Cunningham Highway towards Ipswich. New road to mark on my map. Left at Walloon to visit Petra & David. Great to see them both again. Sadly their open back yard will soon be filled with houses as a big subdivision is due to start there soon.
Headed north again to Fernvale to top up the water tanks as Leanne & Rick only have tank water and it has been very dry there. Headed out to their place, over the Brisbane River. The camper’s ‘home’ for the next two weeks on the concrete slab while we fly home for Daniel & Fran’s wedding on the 20th.
Chatted the afternoon away.
As the sun dropped we went for a wander. They have a colony of native bees and we spotted a koala up the tree which was a treat.
Further up there is another one. He was keeping an eye on us.
As we headed along Steve said to Leanne to look out as he spotted a long snake in the grass. Very hard to see as it is the same colour as the grass and branches but it took off which is what caught Steve’s eye.
I saw it going into the garden. Will have too keep our eyes open.
There is a possum asleep in one of the many ‘homes’ they have put in the trees.
No more snakes but then Rick called from up near the carport and the snake was laying alongside the lawn locker.
Rick know how to get about easily and avoid the snakes as he brings the chairs from the shed to the fire pit enclosure.
Got our drinks and sat around the fire in their fire pit enclosure. Very nice.
Leanne is waiting for some drums and timber slabs to make a table along one wall.
Lovely roast dinner by the fire watching the satellites zoom over and lots of chatting.
