Mon, 3rd Feb, 2025 Bush camp at Greenbushes Pool, Greenbushes, WA (bush walk)

Lovely sleep-in this morning. Only got down to 18 degrees but felt much cooler with all the windows open. Had to get out the big blanket! The ranger came by and took our number plate so she knows how long we have been here.

After breakfast we went for a walk. Started off with the pool walk as we haven’t done it before.

Big walk! Steve needs a rest!

Around to the other day use area.

All the info is in the hut here. I had taken these photos in Dec 2016 but decided to take them again as that was a while ago now. The Discovery Centre was really great and they have done a great job with all the history plaques around town. I rather a ‘walking’ museum than standing in one reading about a place. Walking and looking about puts the history in perspective.

We will follow the Cockatoo one down to Schwenkes Dam - not doing 15km of the Loop Trail!

Continued around the pool - a few more signs.

Back to the toilet block then across the road and onto the walk. There is another symbol of another bird but that wasn’t on the walk info board so not sure where it goes.

Lots of cockatoos calling out as we walked along. Managed to get a few photos as they flew off when we got too near.

Nice walk though Steve had to watch out for the spider’s webs.

Reached the dam but the walk continued along to a road. Great info about the cockatoos.

Headed down to the dam wall but then Steve spotted some old relic in the bush. It was a sluice for the tin mining that was carried out around here.

Reached the dam wall and walked along it. There is some sort of fence down the other end.

We can see part of the mine operations in the distance and of course hear it.

Looking down the other side of the dam.

Passed some big ants - all keyed up to bite my finger.

Headed back along the track looking for that fence thing we saw. Steve got sick of the spider’s webs so found a good branch to clear the way!

Saw the other bird symbol marker and followed it down to a nice treed entrance to a walkway over the other end of the dam (the fence we saw).

Found a sign about a nest sculpture.

Obviously a new walk and the bird is a Bittern.

I think those are just cranes.

Back over the walkway and back along the track with the Black Cockatoos complaining about us passing by.

Home for a late cuppa then read our books for a while.

Much cooler day so far, only 28.5 degrees at lunch time.

Worked on my blog - so many photos to sort and write about. I relive the trip by writing about it and hope others enjoy it when they read it too. Great for looking back on too now we have been travelling for so long - hard to remember it all.

Had a cuppa and rang Terry to confirm when we will be arriving etc. We decided to go down to Woodgate for a few days and he is happy with that. Much nicer down at the beach then the noisy road that passes the Bundaberg house.

I did my baking then while Steve read and then went for a wander checking out who else has arrived.

I chatted with a couple from Perth who parked on the edge of the day use area.

Steve put the truck on to link up the batteries for tonight so let our new neighbours know that the truck won’t be on for too long. They are from Fremantle - Stephen and Rosemary. We chatted while having our drinks then he turned off the truck.

Steve’s favourite chicken wings tonight since I had the oven warmed up with the baking. Had to close up the windows as it is quite chilly.
