Thurs, 13th Feb, 2025 24hr RV Stop, York, to Bush camp at Kulyaling Park, south of Brookton, WA (exploring Dale River area)

12.8 degrees min, overcast and light breeze and of course the squawking Corellas!

Great morning chatting with Peter before he headed into town for a wander. We had a cuppa then headed off under a clear blue sky now.

Back on the highway heading south but slowly for a while till we got the wave by from the pilot vehicle.

On to Beverley - not windy today but the gliders don’t fly till Saturday.

Across the Dale River which flows into the Avon River here on the other side of the road - well not today as it is dry.

Through Beverley then onto the Westdale Road heading south-west. Up and down rocky hills through more farmland.

Turned onto a gravel Deep Pool Road then turned into the Dale River Reserve. Lovely big Salmon Gums.

Down to the river to a picnic table on the high bank and some information.

Walked down to the water and a deep sandy causeway. A big rope has been strung across the river - maybe for a flying fox. Walked to the end of the sandy spit.

Another pool the other way - getting confused with is up or downstream!

Back to the camper for lunch at the picnic table as there are no flies here. Yeah!

Headed back out then continued along Westdale Road. Crossed the river again - dry but you can see a pool further along.

Into the locality of The Dale - farms and a lovely church and hall. Interesting brickwork.

Wandered around the cemetery - some to the left of the front, the rest out the back. Wow what a big family.

‘Strange’ must have been a founding family as there are a few buried here. Some very old ones too.

Wandered down to the hall.

Across the road was plaques on a big rock and some old building ruins.

Continued on with the river easily recognisable by the line of green trees on our left.

Met the Brookton Highway then turned eastward to head back to Brookton. Crossed the Dale River again - it starts a bit further along here in the hills.

Through Brookton and continued south on the Great Southern Highway to another railway siding township - Kulyaling which is a free camp area in the bush. Set up camp.

There are a couple of plaques on the rock and the Avon River (upper reaches) is down the bank from here.

Only got to 29 degrees today. Had a cuppa then worked on my blog and read our books.

Played cards over drinks which we would have been doing with Tom & Sandy. Hope Sandy is feeling better.

Watched a movie after dinner then the wind came back. Reminded us of the people around Port Hedland who are preparing to be hit by Cyclone Zelia.
