Sun, 9th Feb, 2025 Railway Dam 72hr RV Stop, south of Narrogin to Bush camp at Yornaning Dam Reserve, north of Cuballing, WA (Dam walk & Narrogin history) (Sophia 11mths)

Cloudy with a breeze that comes and goes. Min of 19 this morning. The 28s are having a big chat in the tree beside us.

Back across the bridge between the two dams for the Archibald Park walk. Read the info but nothing to see below us as it is dry.

Arrived at one of the gates for the jet boat park. All dry at the moment. We have watched this type of racing on TV. Wandered around the edge of the park to the other end.

Continued on the trail and found another sign about the dams diversion channels. A bit bent from a fallen tree. Great photo of when it was all wet in 2021.

Back to the picnic area - this is where the water comes into the dam.

Packed up and headed into Narrogin. Passed an old butter factory - no dairy cows around here. Along to the RV Stop by the railway to use the dump point then around to the service station to fill up, 185.9c/l. Mural of the Yakan turtle we read about at the dam.

I spotted some history plaques for the buildings on the corner. I had looked back on my blog of Feb 2018 when we came through here and saw I took photos of a few of the prominent buildings but no history plaques so we will do the walk. Needing more exercise now we are getting older!!

All quiet in town so parked on the main street and went for a wander following the history signs on the ground.

Found the start of the walk. Great mural.

Back down the main street to the Town Hall again. Interesting tables and chairs outside the hall and another mural.

Turned up Fortune St following the markers. Interesting parking here.

Through a lovely big park.

Down the street heading back to the camper. The sun is making it harder to read the plaques now.

Drove up the road to the park for a cuppa then around to Coles for some fruit and veggies. It didn’t open till 11 so we waited with a couple of people outside. A chap asked about our truck and then suggested we check out a dam to the north which we can camp at. More people arrived and then the doors opened. Got out bits and headed out - the car park is full. It was like everyone shops on a Sunday! Glad we got here early to get a park!

Headed out of town but then spotted this great mural near the sports centre so got Steve to detour.

Onto the Great Southern Highway again heading north to Cuballing. Great entrance sign with the jumping horse.

We continued on because we remember doing the walk about this little railway siding township.

Found the turn off into Yornaning Dam, passing the old school site. We had been here before when we passed through. There are a few people using the picnic facilities. Big playground now.

We chose a spot further over in the shade of the big trees - always mindful of any branches that look like they might fall especially as it is quite windy here. Blue sky and a few puffy clouds now.

Had lunch then I wandered over to check out the signs - history, walk & bike trails.

Walked down to the dam - lower water level then in 2018.

Worked on my blog and Steve read - need to find him some more books!

32 degrees by afternoon tea so we sat outside in the shade with the very gusty wind trying to blow us off the chairs. Luckily it isn’t blowing up any dust.

Cooled down rather than heating up this afternoon as we read outside.

Inside for a game of cards while we had drinks. Skipbo - need to practice before catching up with Tom & Sandy shortly as we will be having a few games with them.

Walked down to the pool to stretch our legs and spotted two Wood Ducks as well as the Black Ducks - getting to be experts now.

Heard the squawks of the Black Cockatoos and some kookaburras had the last laugh as the sun set. The wind is settling down and cooling down too.

All quiet again now the wind has stopped at bedtime.
