What
a terrible friend – I forgot to ring Kaylene and wish her a Happy Birthday.
Will do it tonight!! It was also Alexander’s but I had asked Suzanne to give
him a hug from me as she went to Brisbane to have the weekend there. Also it
was Steve’s parents’ wedding anniversary.
Had
stayed the night at Andrea & Steve’s so after saying farewell to them as
they headed off to work and school we chilled out till it was safe to get onto
the Freeway – headed off at 9.30am. Good trip back.
Stopped
at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Leppington to see the plaque for my Aunt Val’s
grave. (in a rose garden – to tranquil and the bell birds were singing.)
Mum’s
cousin, Joyce and her husband Bill are on the wall around the rose garden,
beside my mum’s parents, Sydney & May Windle.
Found
“Camelot” in Kirkham (next suburb to Camden) where “A Place to Call Home” was
filmed. Looks so grand – they have weddings there etc.
The front entrance.
Couldn’t
find the grave of the Melbourne Cup winner, Chester. Maybe next time we come
they will have erected a plaque etc.
Got
the sheets and clothes onto the line to make the most of the beautiful warm day
– into the shorts and singlet again – well till 4pm at least.
Pete
and Marion arrived home – Pete a bit tired from big flight back from the USA.
Lovely tea together and lots of stories and memories of our parents and
grandparents. Uncle Wal had the original poster of the land sale in 1914 where
my grandparents Syd & May Windle (Ingham) and May's brother Walter Ingham purchased land in Casula. They all set up
poultry farms – hence Ingham Chickens!!!
My
grandfather, Syd, was the Warden for Casula and when the Japanese mini
submarines came into Sydney Harbour during WW2, he went to help. My
grandmother, May, made mum and uncle Wal get under the table. They were there
for 4 hours. The bombing (which was nowhere near them) was over in 2 hours and
Syd had then gone to the pub with the other chaps to celebrate. When he
eventually got home, May let them come out from under the table but I bet she
wasn’t too happy to know where he had been.
I
remember Mum saying how they were the only ones in the area to have a phone
because Syd was the Warden.
