Tues, 2nd Sept, 2014 Uralla

Cool start again 8.8 degrees at 8am inside the van. Our little heater works well so got us warmed up and ready to pan for gold and gemstones.
Thinking of Bill as he faces his big operation. Hope all goes well.
Tassie couple gave us some tips on good places to go.
Rocky River was once a big gold and gem field in the late 1800s. Can see why it is called Rocky.

Saw some beautiful red parrots.

Found a nice size smoky quartz and a few garnets in the first sieve.
Steve even got some gold but it was so small. Filled one of Steve’s gold jars so we were happy.

By lunch time dark clouds had started to roll in and down came the rain in big drops. Put on a silverside in my Ecopot and had lunch. On with the raincoats and I kept sieving. Steve took the detector for a walk and found a bullet casing and buckshot pellets. More rain so no fire tonight.

Later in the afternoon we heard some good thunder and a few flashes of lightning but it was a long way away. Watched a movie as it was cold and raining then out with the heater and cooked the vegies and carved the silverside. We played a few games of Rummikub with port and coffee. 6 degrees outside and 18 in the van.

We have covered 2930kms so far.
