7
degrees at 8am in the van. Heater on again and more layers of clothing. Got out
my scarf that mum knitted me. Cloudy but no rain so packed up and left the
river at 9.30. Big drive (15mins) to Thunderbolt’s Boulders (will have to
research Captain Thunderbolt) for morning tea.
Good cave to hide in.
My warm scarf – thanks mum.
Found rabbit droppings and their burrows, what a mess they make. I saw two running off but too quick for a photo.
Dropped
down from the Southern Tablelands after Bendemeer down a steep range from 1100m
to 770m to where we stopped at the Moonbi Scenic Lookout. Fantastic view. 4wd
park on the side of the mountain with lots of trails up the mountainside. The
lookout was built over large boulders – a lot of work. Good campspot too,
though it might get very windy.
Drove
further down into the valley to Moonbi at 460m. Truck won’t be looking forward
to going back up that road one day. On to Tamworth and found a dump point and
then filled up the water tanks.
Did
the pose shot with the Golden Guitar – will be back for the Music Festival one
January. I will probably have forgotten how to line dance by then.
Golden
Guitar museum and cafĂ© was interesting. They have a wax museum but we didn’t go
in. Also another display of Donald Bradman pictures etc in another room.
Got
passed by a racecar.
Onto
Wallabadah Rest Area for a late lunch and set up for the night.
It is beside a
creek and a Garden called the First Fleet Gardens.
The chap that got it
organised was a direct descendant of one of the First Fleet convicts.
Big
goldfish in the fountain, nearly big enough to eat - hence the no fishing sign.
Very
interesting and they have done another area on the Second Fleet.
Met
a couple from Gosford way and chatted the afternoon away till the cold drove us
into our vans for tea.
