Thurs, 4th Sept, 2014 Wallabadah to Singleton Rest Area

Slow start this morning as it was 6 degrees at 8am. Got the heater working and layered on more clothes. Said bye to Darryl & Julie from Gosford area. Heading south to the Hunter Region. Great view of the valley as we crest another range. We love the dual lane roads, don’t have to fret when trucks appear behind us.

Lovely quaint old house at Murrurundi.

Massive area for the Emirates Park racehorses at Blanford.

Morning tea at Burning Mountain Rest Area. Had fun feeding the little birds, cheeky things even came into the van to get the bread.

There is a 2 hour walk up to the where there is a burning coal seam, 30m underground and there is sulphur around the top of it. We will stop and explore next time we are here. Nice camp area too.

Great escarpment on Liverpool Range.

Stopped at Scone, the Horse Capital, for a long long coal train.

Nice pink trees – should have got a tree and bird book!!!

Cute place Aberdeen – will enjoy exploring this area.

Through Muswellbrook – saw a great memorial for the Vietnam war but didn’t stop so another thing to check next time.

Past Liddell and Bayswater Power Stations – miles of conveyor belts transporting the coal. Big coal pits as we head into Singleton.

Stopped for lunch at a road rest area before Singleton then into find a grocery store.

Great old houses.

Down the highway a bit to another rest area for the night. Quiet afternoon after a downpour of rain then the sun came out again.
