Still
raining. We moved the van from our “camp” spot to around the corner. Went up to
Mum & Dad’s room to wait for them to return after breakfast. Watched the
news about all the rain last night (77mm in Hobart and 150mm at Mt Wellington).
Not huge by Cairns standards but has caused flooding and damage here. The
little rivulet we walked over the other day is now a raging torrent. (Took
photos off the news)
Mum
gave my hair a trim and then I had a nice long hot shower in their room. Had a
cuppa and watched some tennis. Wandered over to the Casino and watched the
water droplets race down the big windows!! Into the bistro for lunch. Not the
lovely view we are used too. Can hardly see the cruise boat in the distance.
A
Pacific Gull was waiting for her chicks to return.
Steve
took photos of us.
Steve
& I went up the stairs to the overpass area into the original Wrest Point
hotel. Good photos. Found the Guest Laundry too – should have used that!!!
Nicer
decorations than in the section Mum & Dad are in.
Looked
through the big round windows at the tower. We didn’t get to the revolving
restaurant at the top – shame you can’t just go up for a look.
Hugs
and kisses and hope they have a great trip around Tassie.
Headed
off in the rain. Turned off at Kingston and up the steep range, crawling up
slowly in 2nd gear to 310m elevation. Quite windy but the wind has
dropped to just mist. No views today. Back down the range to 150m to cross the
river near Longley. Lots of people all dressed up to go white water
rafting/canoeing. Steep climb up again – glad this is a 4 lane highway as we
are crawling along at 40km/h up to Lower Longley (380m). Slowly down again
following a ridge to Grove (220m) then steep descent to 80m near the Apple
Shed. Through Huonville and passed a poor backpacker – not the weather for on
foot travelling. Across the Huon River bridge and on to Franklin to check out
the Foreshore Campground.
The
other side of Egg Island through my wet window as we head down the other side
of the Huon River.
Passed
a lot of farm front stalls. Very windy and wet at Franklin (settled in 1836).
The camp area is sodden and doesn’t look very inviting at the moment.
Found the water tap and filled up the tanks. The wind just about blew us over. Will have to come back when it is sunny to check out the Wooden Boat Building Training Centre.

Drove
into Geeveston and found the RSL. Friends from Gordon had texted that it was
nice here. Found a spot on the grass and settled in.
The temperature has dropped so into the winter woollies again. Not raining when we set up but it started again so stayed in the van trying to catch up on my blog.

The
corner of one lounge pillow was wet so Steve has to investigate a leak on the
roof seam.
On
the news they reported that there was an earthquake in Waratah. It’s all
happening down here!!
Mum and Dad having dinner with the tour group and last night at the Casino before heading off tomorrow.
