Nice
sleep in under the blankets. Sun up early though – about 6am.
Breakfast
then settled in to watch the final V8 race for 2016. Great racing to the end.
Linda
rang – will have lunch with them on Wednesday. Judy texted and we will catch
them on Saturday.
After
a cuppa we headed into Perth for a drive around and to find the Information
Centre. Onto the freeway, past the next Cricket/Football Stadium which is still
under construction.
Looks
like they are building a new bridge over the Swan River to the stadium.
‘Girlie’
got confused about the freeway and we missed the turnoff so cruised further
along the highway to the next turn off. Good view as we headed into the City.
Traffic
was light and we found the Information Centre but couldn’t find a park!! Nice
buildings in here. I think it will be easier to get a train in during the week
– they have free buses around the city too.
Onto
Mounts Bay Road along the edge of the Swan River. Some jetskiers zoomed by
followed by a Police Boat. Oops, speeding fine for them.
Passed
the Swan Brewery which is right on the water’s edge.
Found
a parking bay and stopped for a photo back to the city and walk along the
water’s edge. Should have brought a jumper!! The wind is very strong and cold.
Continued
around past all the yachts clubs then turned off into Mounts Bay Sailing Club
est 1897 at Pelican Point. Found a lookout with a plaque about the Duke of
Edinburgh watching the birds from this spot a week before I was born!
Unfortunately
they haven’t kept the trees down so you can’t see the birds anymore!
Further
around the point we stopped to watch the kite surfers etc and read the
information boards about Pelican Point.
Next
stop was JH Abrahams Reserve. In the early 1900s, the reserve was a popular
recreation site for the residents of Perth. A jetty and baths were built to
accommodate the growing number of visitors.
A
few cows were grazing in the park too. The 2016 Cow Parade. Reminds us of
Shepparton and all their cows.
This
one is growing plants.
Spotted
this lovely building up on the hill with a fabulous view over the river so
stopped for a look. It was built in the 1870s. The retaining walls etc are
built from local limestone.
Continued
along then passed “Steve’s” – should have stopped for a drink.
Turned
around and headed back – lovely tree-lined roads.
‘Girlie’
is annoying with her ‘turn left’ ‘keep left’ bits so we missed the turn but
found some interesting churches. At least she can ‘recalculate’ quickly.
Onto
the Graham Farmer Freeway at last and through the Tunnel.
Back
out again and onto the Tonkin Freeway. This is a ‘blow up’ amusement park
called ‘Splash City’.
The
Jacarandas are beautiful.
Back
to the van where a couple of parrots had stopped for a chat.
The
sun is late going down – about 7pm, so they don’t need daylight saving here.
