Sun, 1st July 2018 Graves Hill Fossicking Area, near Sapphire, Qld

8am 19 degrees, overcast again but no rain.

‘Lori’ keet came for breakfast then a magpie and a currawong.

Into Sapphire for the markets. Lots of stalls with a variety of things – all the tools you will need to find gemstones and of course lots of raw and cut stones.

One chap had a collection of stones and fossils for sale. I liked this yabbie.

I bought a book and some butane cylinders as we are nearly out.

Back to camp for lunch – more lorikeets. They are taking over now. Very entertaining too. More videos.

Still cloudy. Washed the stones we got out of the creek yesterday. Only a couple of sapphires and zircons.

I worked on my blog – so far behind but I will catch up eventually.

Went for a walk down to Retreat Creek looking for gems. I tried using Erica’s wires but I just seem to find water.

Chatted with a chap who said the area near him was called Millionaires Hill and said to try the gully there as he is leaving tomorrow. He said the chap who has a mining lease on the other side of the fossicking area dug up a 3oz gold nugget 19 foot down so a bit deep for our detectors.

Still overcast which is keeping it a bit warmers.

A herd of cattle wander by as the sun set.

Dinner with visits from two potoroos and then Mr Possum.

Erica and Terry retired to their van so we played some more Skipbo while we had our coffee.
