Sun, 16th Sept, 2018 Mum & Dad’s, Cairns, Qld (4yrs 1mth on road)

Watched the rest of Saturday’s Supercars race at Sandown that we had recorded.

Worked on the family history again for Erica.

After lunch watched the main Supercars race as it is live on normal TV.

4pm we took two cars and drove Mum, Dad, Erica and Terry into town for a wander along the Esplanade. Walked around the Pier first to look at all the boats and check out the big Marlin. Erica found a big motorbike she thought she could take for a ride.

The sculpture of the Black Marlin was made to recognise the contribution marlin fishing has made to the Far North over the past 50 years.

Lots of nice boats to look at in the marina.

We left Mum and Dad to rest outside the Pier and took Erica and Terry around the edge of the Lagoon. Lots of people making use of it on this lovely day.

Quite windy so the inlet water is choppy and muddy today.

Walked to the end of the lagoon.

Nearby is the new stingray sculpture. I took more photos for Erica to have.

On the way back I noticed the fountain was now working and there was water coming from the ‘fish’.

We walked back to Mum and Dad then drove back down to check out where Dad worked at ACF & Shirley’s Fertilizers when we were kids. It is near the main wharf area. It is still used for fertilizers and the big sheds are still here.

Went back along the Esplanade then back towards home. Continued on to Lake Morris Road and headed up the narrow road to the lookout where we had been recently with Bob and Margaret. Had my camera this time to took some scenery shots. Starting with Mt Whitfield, looking over Marino’s quarry where Mum and Dad’s place is on the east side of the hill. Over Kanimbla Heights which was where our last home was, just below us. Then around to the south side but there is so much more further around. Cairns is spreading but has to go north and south between the water and the mountains.

Zoomed in on Green Island.

The City.

ACF & Shirley’s Fertilizers were in the big long sheds.

Marino’s Quarry caused a lot of cracks etc in Mum & Dad’s house over the years with the blasting etc.

Back home for dinner.

Quiet evening.
