Sun, 6th Oct, 2019 Bush camp, south-east of Sandstone, WA (Greg’s birthday)

7.30am 16 degrees, clear sky and gusty wind which is making the awning flap wildly. Greg is 54 today – hope he has a nice birthday.

Went detecting but only found rubbish.

Spent the afternoon drawing plans for a new camper. Steve wants to upgrade the truck to a 6 wheeler and put a removable camper on the back rather than tow a van. We love our van but sometimes it would be go to be able to go up a track and not worry about having to turn around with the van behind us. There will be compromises of course regarding storage and the bed would be above the cab but we will look into it and compare with what vans are available. Steve would build the camper so it will be a long term job too. We will decide all this when we get back to Cairns next year. We still have so much to see of Australia and we would like to do the same in New Zealand so I will look into the costs of transporting our vehicle over there rather than hire/buy one over there. Anyway gives us something to think about.

Steve went for another detect in the afternoon while I worked on my blog.

He came back with a bottle for Mickey and no gold. He came across hundreds of bottle/tin dumps – the tin has broken up over time and is scattered everywhere making detecting for gold near on impossible. This area must have been the camps for all the miners working the various mines in the area. Across the main road to the east was the King Henry and Lord Nelson mines.

While we had our drinks we played 3 to Kings – Steve had a win. Then dinner and movies. So quiet out here.

NO PHOTOS TODAY.
